    Can anyone tell me why mutilating the genitals of a daughter (female circumcision) is illegal and punishable by a prison sentence, but mutilating the genitals of an 8 day old baby son (male circumcision) is perfectly allowable?

    Just wondering for a friend, like

    Ah...cheers for the explanation Mr Peachey, I did wonder. I think we need to educate the perpetrators of FGM into only cutting off smaller bits of their daughter's genitalia, then it would be viewed as not being serious assault, and as acceptable as what Judaism's male circumcision practice is.

    I did search for the reasons they do it, and apparently it was written in a book some centuries ago, so that's alright then

    Cicumcision is also a common cultural practice in the US (almost 80%).

    Funny that you brought this up in a thread about antisemitism, though.
