To aid Mrs T’s recovery after her knee op we’re considering getting her one if those new fangled electric push bikes that can boost electronically to help her up the hills. I wondered if anyone had any experience of these and could therefore recommend anything please. Looking to spend up to a grand. Ta.

Due to UK's rather outdated laws on many things technological, are these not legal to own but still illegal to ride anywhere except private land? I believe I read something last week that the law was under review

EDIT: My bad.... I was thinking about those ride on scooters... This....
    So what’s an EAPC?
EAPC is an acronym for ‘electrically assisted pedal cycles’ – another way of saying electric bike. To be classed as an EAPC, a bike must meet certain requirements. It must have pedals that can be used to propel it. On the bike itself it must show either the power output or the manufacturer of the motor. Plus it must show either the batteries voltage or the maximum speed of the bike.

The electric motor on the bike must have a maximum continuous power output of no more than 250 watts and should not be able to propel the bike when it’s travelling more than 15.5mph. Cycle paths and roads OK (although I DID see something about review of laws due to numbers of accidents occuring in cities in more liberal European countries where they can be ridden practically anywhere.

Are you maybe thinking of electric stand-on scooters?

It’s a pedal cycle we’re after. Went for a look in Halfords at Selby yesterday but its only a small shop with not much choice.

    Hi trickster.
Me and the Mrs have one each.
Mainly use when away with motorhome.
The pedal assist is really useful on hills.
I would suggest looking on here.

The one I bought was a Crussis.

We got Mrs a Raleigh from Evans in their sale.
Mine was from the above website.
    Both have been good
They make cycling easier for people who wouldn't normally cycle distances.
I have a trolley on back for our labrador.
I did all sorts of research, but tbh, go with what you like.
One of ours has motor on front, one on back.
You won't get one on pedals for your budget which is same as we set ourselves.

Strangely electric bikes are ok. Electric scooters etc aren’t.
