I also believe its what you deem to be succesful. Imho, as a fan, i wish to have a good team, in whatever division we are plsying and be profitable and in that order.
The board appear to want things the other way round, with football coming a very poor second.

Given we’re probably going down anyway, keeping our better players in January would only be a token gesture now as the damage is already done, and we know relegation would mean them only having a stay of execution until summer.

Summer is where we failed miserably and as a result don’t have enough points on the board for January to really matter as much.

If we do go down -

I think many will see relegation like I do, as a relief from seeing us beaten most weeks.

Based on that, and our last season in league one, many will renew and jump back on the rollercoaster In the hope of seeing lots of wins and a quick return.

I would be more wary of renewing in the championship, and have already started picking my away games.

I'm the opposite - I don't like FA Cup Round 1, Checkatrade trophy ties and the total radio silence of the mainstream media to clubs in League One and below.

I don't find workmanlike wins over Gillingham particularly enthralling, especially knowing that whoever our player of the season is will probably refuse to sign a new contract over the summer and 'force the Board's hand' into a £3 million sale.

If we go down with a whimper, it just cements our status as a feeder club and not a football club.

Weren’t you entertained last season then? I certainly was.

Of course I don’t want the club to settle for league 1, but scoring 4 away from home isnt what I’d describe as workmanlike.

True, but for me the real step change started with the Keith Hill era. If you factor in the decline that set in after his first January transfer window, we escaped relegation only by Portsmouth having their points deduction, the following season was the great escape under Flitcroft and then following that we finally dropped. So really we've either scrapped away to avoid relegation, or been relegated from this level, for 5 out 6 seasons.

The current regime cannot seriously claim to have strengthened the squad by anyone's judgement, that's not to say they haven't invested heavily, its just what they've acquired isn't up to the standard. To strengthen you have to improve on what you had before, we've gone so far the other way it's painful. I honestly expected fewer signings of better quality back in the summer, and even Conway in an interview nearly 12 months ago said the "plan" was to strengthen what was already a squad who's core was Championship standard. That core has pretty much gone.

So there is a part of me that now concludes that the modus operandi of the club in terms of recruiting has shown itself to be flawed for nearly 8 years, at this level anyway.

I don't want to write anyone off from this window but part of me can't help thinking that if these players were good enough and of a "fair value", then other clubs would be in the queue.

I class myself as a pragmatist usually, and don't have an axe to grind at the club trying to balance a budget, but the vast majority of recruitment and football decisions over the last 9 months have seemingly been with little consideration to our core business, the football itself. I'm not sure where we go from here. Two good results in the next two games would change the feeling again, but I still think we are as good as down already, happy to be proved wrong.

Yup, Cryne had no real brass to talk of and we tried different ways, but what I’m really struggling with is these lot have seemingly bought the club without any real intent.

Some say they’ll be happy with slow improvement, but up to now I don’t see anything encouraging.

Watching a tree grow is brilliant when speeded up on a nature programme, but in real time it’s fecking tedious

I think we are just a passing experiment for them as they aren’t using there own money to fund this nonsense plan but the clubs own transfer kitty and they’re doing it very badly indeed as afterall, the fact it isn’t their personal money makes it low-risk on their part.

Don’t trust any of them and firmly believe they don’t give two fukks about this club or it’s fan base and are just content to make a bit here and there then when they get bored and admit failure, possibly when we’re languishing near the foot of league 1 this time next season, they’ll look to sell us on as all decent remaining saleable assets, Mowatt, Woodrow and Chaplin will have been sold in the summer.

    Football club owning charlatans.
