We had a volley headed off the line, a handball prevented Chaplin too, Marcel hit the bar, Mowatt had one saved first half, went just wide second half, Thomas missed that simple chance, and a few other close efforts. Bristol blazed two chances over in the second half. That was it. How that was us escaping a proper hammering, well, I do not know.
Selling players is the policy, so far as I can see. And longer contracts mean nothing if the price is right - we never insist on them being honoured.
Agree with your assessment but not your conclusion. I'd also add a further error: both centre halves went to ground in an attempt to cut out the cross. Had they not done so they would have had time to get back to make a block. I don't think Bristol City would have scored that goal if the provider of the cross had been up against a more experienced full back. Williams was a sitting duck. Their winger was coming at him at such pace and could go either side, so there was no way Williams could have accelerated fast enough to keep up with him. There was nothing within the rules of the game Williams could do to stop him. A more experienced player would have known that, taken one for the team, and fouled him. We've done so many pointless unnecessary fouls this season in areas where the opposition couldn't do us any damage and allowed them a breather or the opportunity to launch the ball onto our box. But in the last minute a player motoring to the byline we let go. It's not an individual, or the formation, it's the lack of experience throughout the team and it rears its head in so many different scenarios.
I was at the game, I don’t need to watch highlights. Everything I referred to did indeed happen. Other than the goal, and two other efforts that they put over the bar, what other chances did Bristol City create? Browny headed against his own bar, I suppose they had that. Otherwise, nothing.
Players are beaten in exactly the same way as Williams was beaten twenty times each game. They do not all bring their opponent down, otherwise we would have no-one left by the end of the game. They do not do so because they rely upon their teammates to cover for them, and they hope that the cross, when it comes will not be accurate. Many, many times during a game, that happens. The cross is intercepted, the cross is inaccurate, the attack is stopped. The problem for Williams is that he does not carry a crystal ball, he cannot see into the future, he does not know exactly when he should take his one yellow card, and when he should not. The only people who do know that for certain are those who judge things using hindsight. They are never wrong. They are alway 100% correct in their assessment of every game, and every player.

Experienced players would read the situation, you describe much better though and would not be "caught out" as much. I never really saw him play (and this an extreme example) but bobby moore only had avarage pace but was a top defender because he could read the game. I do actually like the gameplay of playing from the back its just our 2 cb's are not competant at it at this level, to do that they need someone alongside to tell them when are where not to do it. Again an end of season load would do it, we dont need to buy everyone and break ffp rules.
51 goals conceded in 28 games. The second worst in the division. The defence is shambolic. Both tactically and individually. As Red Rain likes to say, statistics don't lie. Jake The Red and his photographic memory can probably tell you how many of them were individual errors. The most recent two conceded being prime examples.
Since I lead a very sad life, I've bean looking at the league tables based on goals for and against but ignoring points, and ended up with the following: - Based solely on goals scored: - 1 West Brom 27 14 11 2 50 30 20 53 2 QPR 28 11 5 12 46 51 -5 38 3 Brentford 28 14 5 9 44 21 23 47 4 Leeds 28 15 7 6 43 24 19 52 5 Bristol City 28 12 8 8 42 40 2 44 6 Fulham 28 14 6 8 42 30 12 48 7 Hull 28 11 6 11 40 36 4 39 8 Blackburn 28 11 7 10 40 35 5 40 9 Cardiff 28 9 12 7 39 41 -2 39 10 Preston 28 12 7 9 39 34 5 43 11 Sheff Wed 28 12 6 10 39 31 8 42 12 Nottm Forest 27 13 8 6 38 27 11 47 13 Charlton 28 7 8 13 37 41 -4 29 14 Millwall 28 11 11 6 36 32 4 44 15 Barnsley 28 5 9 14 35 51 -16 24 16 Luton 28 6 3 19 34 61 -27 21 17 Birmingham 28 9 6 13 34 45 -11 33 18 Swansea 28 12 9 7 34 31 3 45 19 Reading 27 10 6 11 34 31 3 36 20 Stoke 27 7 4 16 33 42 -9 25 21 Huddersfield 28 7 8 13 31 44 -13 29 22 Derby 28 9 10 9 29 36 -7 37 23 Middlesbrough 28 8 10 10 28 35 -7 34 24 Wigan 28 5 8 15 25 43 -18 23 Based on goals conceded: - 1 Brentford 28 14 5 9 44 21 23 47 2 Leeds 28 15 7 6 43 24 19 52 3 Nottm Forest 27 13 8 6 38 27 11 47 4 West Brom 27 14 11 2 50 30 20 53 5 Fulham 28 14 6 8 42 30 12 48 6 Sheff Wed 28 12 6 10 39 31 8 42 7 Swansea 28 12 9 7 34 31 3 45 8 Reading 27 10 6 11 34 31 3 36 9 Millwall 28 11 11 6 36 32 4 44 10 Preston 28 12 7 9 39 34 5 43 11 Blackburn 28 11 7 10 40 35 5 40 12 Middlesbrough 28 8 10 10 28 35 -7 34 13 Hull 28 11 6 11 40 36 4 39 14 Derby 28 9 10 9 29 36 -7 37 15 Bristol City 28 12 8 8 42 40 2 44 16 Cardiff 28 9 12 7 39 41 -2 39 17 Charlton 28 7 8 13 37 41 -4 29 18 Stoke 27 7 4 16 33 42 -9 25 19 Wigan 28 5 8 15 25 43 -18 23 20 Huddersfield 28 7 8 13 31 44 -13 29 21 Birmingham 28 9 6 13 34 45 -11 33 22 QPR 28 11 5 12 46 51 -5 38 23 Barnsley 28 5 9 14 35 51 -16 24 24 Luton 28 6 3 19 34 61 -27 21 Based on goal difference: - 1 Brentford 28 14 5 9 44 21 23 47 2 West Brom 27 14 11 2 50 30 20 53 3 Leeds 28 15 7 6 43 24 19 52 4 Fulham 28 14 6 8 42 30 12 48 5 Nottm Forest 27 13 8 6 38 27 11 47 6 Sheff Wed 28 12 6 10 39 31 8 42 7 Preston 28 12 7 9 39 34 5 43 8 Blackburn 28 11 7 10 40 35 5 40 9 Millwall 28 11 11 6 36 32 4 44 10 Hull 28 11 6 11 40 36 4 39 11 Swansea 28 12 9 7 34 31 3 45 12 Reading 27 10 6 11 34 31 3 36 13 Bristol City 28 12 8 8 42 40 2 44 14 Cardiff 28 9 12 7 39 41 -2 39 15 Charlton 28 7 8 13 37 41 -4 29 16 QPR 28 11 5 12 46 51 -5 38 17 Middlesbrough 28 8 10 10 28 35 -7 34 18 Derby 28 9 10 9 29 36 -7 37 19 Stoke 27 7 4 16 33 42 -9 25 20 Birmingham 28 9 6 13 34 45 -11 33 21 Huddersfield 28 7 8 13 31 44 -13 29 22 Barnsley 28 5 9 14 35 51 -16 24 23 Wigan 28 5 8 15 25 43 -18 23 24 Luton 28 6 3 19 34 61 -27 21
I'm not sure what you're getting at here, Jay. Just because it's not on a 2 minute highlight package it didn't happen?
Pretty damning evidence. To blame the forwards for being wasteful when we're conceding almost 2 a game is out of order.
To be honest I don't blame anyone on the pitch, nor in the squad, nor in the dugout. Including the previous occupants of the dugout. Everyone on here knows who I blame, but there are still 11 more sleeps to try to change my opinion.
No, there's a 10 minute highlight package that shows a number of straightforward chances for Bristol that they fluffed. Actually, it's just one player who missed 3 or 4 chances much easier than those we missed.
I never say, or have said, statistics don't lie. In fact, if fact, if I did say anything about statistics, it would be that statistics are a blunt instrument that is mainly used in the wrong context.
