Not about Alan (what a man btw) but Edna. My great aunt Edna was born blind: her mum died during the delivery. A year or so later her dad died in the war. Edna was sent to live at a children's home for the blind in Devon when she was 6. Not sure what happened thereafter but I remember her coming to live with my grandma around 1975. Edna used to sit in the back lounge mainly with the occasional foray into the living room to listen to the tv. She preferred the radio in the dining room though. Edna used to have a bowl filled with mintoes at the side of her chair: she guarded them well. Me and my 2 sisters used to attempt commando like raids on said mintoes, seldom getting past Edna's mighty walking stick. Edna never complained, never heard any wrong word come out of her mouth. Then Edna became riddled with cancer and died.

That is quite an amazing video of Alan.

14.5 hours 7 days a week with no holidays is just nonsense though. Why subject yourself to that? Something I'll never understand.

I agree. Call me old fashioned, but I prefer it when employees work reasonable hours and get decent breaks and holidays.

That's assuming that he was employed by somebody, of course. Could be wrong, but I suspect that there's a very happy newsagent not pictured.

Not to mention the fact that he's unlikely to get any other work, so he needs that job.

He seemed happy enough I suppose, but it does make me uncomfortable.

I didn't meet him personally but I did attend an audience with Brian Blessed at Scarborough Spa. Only a small venue.

    Fascinating bloke.

14.5 hours a day, 7 days a week and no paid holidays is the future.
    Better get used to it.

I am guessing this is partly why the health and safety at work act 1974 was brought in.

Not a criticism but he is a hazard to himself and others.

Was just thinking the same, if this was 1972. I'm sure after Brexit he'll be free to resume. Might be a a bit more hazardous with electric / hybrid vehicles.

Is that why you got into the things you do with your business or just a coincidence?

It's a fair assumption mate. Although I don't think Fred Dibnah read the new H&S at work act!

Isn’t that the guy that has all the claws and teeth removed from his animals and keeps them extremely sedated, just for Instagram videos, or is that someone else?
