Aww thats unfair on little Clivey, he was actually one of my fave keepers. I have to agree with the other comments about Mike Sheron though and what an unbelievable waste of the Ashley Ward money he was.
I have been going down to Oakwell since the 1950s and the one player who stands out as a total waste of money and that player was Mike Sheron. Not forgetting Mido and that pill Pingpong I still cannot understand why Barnsley FC should have fetched there likes to the club but they did not cost £1,000,000 plus.
Old bloke behind me at the match doesn’t rate Jacob Brown. Always calls him useless if he loses the ball. Goes awfully quiet when he scores/assists.
In all my years of watching Barnsley, they're the only two I can think of that were popular with other Barnsley fans who I never rated. Not a bad total out of all the players I've seen turn out for us!
Dave Watson was a great keeper, I was gutted when he got injured as I thought he had way more to give.
So others have told me and I don't have an issue with them holding that viewpoint. It's just my opinion on him & Baker. Which is really what the thread is all about.
So wrong on so many counts. Foster was a centre half and loved by most. Yes your right. He played for Mansfield but came to love the club the fans the community. Had the opportunity to join Leeds. But chose to stay with us. Never seen anyone say he's the the best player ever. I think you do him a disservice. He's certainly been an excellent all round player. This is not about everyones admiration as one of the best players ever as you seem to think . But your dismissiveness of a solid good all round player. As in the OP,s quote I think you would be in an inexplicable minority. So my point is do you think Bobby was crap. If so. Fine.
I didn’t think Potts was that good. I think he had half a dozen good games, and the rest were average or poor.
Wow, that's an interesting admission! In my opinion Watson was truly world class on his day, and the only goalkeeper we've had who you'd back in a one on one with a striker every time. If it wasn't for his injury I think he'd have played for England. Baker - would have been a regular in a top flight side if he'd been three inches taller, but his reflexes and agility were breathtaking. And I don't remember a single error from him which cost us a goal (though that may be because of my rose-tinted glasses!)
Agree with you there. It would be interesting to see how Preston fans rate him. Talking of which, I always thought Ben Pearson was utterly gash.
Never rated Andy Liddell myself. His header against Leeds at 2-0 up in the premiership always sticks in my memory. Also how he stayed in the side so long when we let better players leave.
