Only one team was trying to play football this afternoon and that was us.Watching Huddersfield was like watching a throwback to the 80's team, ala Sheffield Wednesday, Sheffield Unied, Wimbledon, Cambridge. Thankfully, despite getting no protection from the referee, we stuck at it and got three valuable points. After a slow start, Ritzmaier began to show his capabilities. Once he's settled in, he could be a decent player for us. My own MOTM was Jacob Brown, but had no problems seeing Jordan Williams picking it up. If we can cut out the unnecessary individual mistakes at the back, I believe we'll start climbing the table. Thanks, lads. Another three points and we're moving in the right direction. Not bad for these young players who, apparently, weren't good enough to accumulate 12 points this season and would definitely be down before the Christmas decorations!
Good summary that. Oduor's ball across for the second was totally sublime. What a player we have there.
Good to see you after the match @JLWBigLil. I very rarely comment on other teams, win or lose, but Huddersfield were one of the most petulant, childish and cynical teams I've ever witnessed at Oakwell, and much of it originates from their dugout by the look of it. A lot of money being paid to those players too, I'd be embarrassed to watch that every week. There was justice in that result for us, Hudds started the game by slowing things down and roughing us up to prevent us getting our tempo going, the early goal was perfect for breaking that up. And it's no good their players and management then grumbling at our own slowdown during the rest of the game. It was good to see our players deal with their tactic of 5h!thousery for 90 minutes without getting drawn in and doing likewise. To come out of Oakwell with a feeling of hope is lovely. The improvement in the last 7 or 8 weeks is very clear, and you're spot on, if we can cut out these seemingly regular basic errors at the back, hope may become genuine optimism. Today's result brings several teams back into the mix, the fact there is a realistic chance of escaping the drop is testament to the improvement we've seen, and credit to the coach and the players alike. There's been no lack of effort since the first game, a lack of quality and errors have done us in so many games, but I can only acknowledge the positive change over recent matches. Hard to argue against Brown as MOTM, but I'm going for Halme myself, I just thought he influenced most of our good forward play with some great passing out wide and broke up a lot play Huddersfield had, especially in the second half. We saw a different side to our game today, coping with a team playing anti-football and scored two quality goals.
Tough choice for MOTM today. Williams and Brown were both excellent, but Halme definitely shaded it for me. He seemed to be everywhere today and really made us tick. A few eyebrows were raised when he was put into the midfield, mine included. But he's more than justified his selection from what I've seen. I'm sure there's a lot more to come from him.
Completely agree with that Merde Tete, I thought Halme was absolutely outstanding today, bossed that midfield and is getting better and better every game.
the ref only found a pair of b0110cks in the last 10 mins ( and i think they were a pair that had been kicked off a reds player ) when he started to stand up for himself with the bullying. i thought halme was outstanding but that 1-1 tackle in the box by williams in the 1st half was sublime
Well, I'm one of those terrible people who believed that our transfer dealings were such that we'd been set up to fail. But, of course, I wanted to be wrong (because I love the club despite my misgivings about its owners). Still in a relegation place, but at least we have a chance. Please do not confuse genuine concern with hoping for failure.
Another plus point from yesterday was the well observed minute's applause for Chris Barker and Eric Brookes, with great credit to the Huddersfield Town fans for showing respect, too.
