It’s an outrageous decision the ball is going to the goal and it hits his hand either I have no idea what the rules are anymore or it’s a stonewall penalty the ref was right in front of the f king ball
Reverse the teams and if Rooney had hit that shot and the ref not given it it would have had the commentators all over it. Other way around. They don’t give a toss.
Was a penalty all day long for me, the balls on target his arm moves hits the ball and deflects it away, a point would probably have been an injustice but it should have been a pen.
have to agree, stonewall penalty and would be given against us but on balance of chances we got what we deserved defensively inept at times when i could see the tv from behind my sofa
Anyone got a picture? Didn’t record it on sky to reload it looked blatant at the time the commentators played it down but his arm was away from his body
I don't blame the ref, it was really fast and in real time I wasn't certain. I shouted handball at the TV, but that's 'cos I'm a Barnsley fan. Refs aren't biased against us, they're just not. They get stuff wrong, that's not up for debate, but they get it wrong for us a lot too. Not this season, but we got away with a lot last season. Commentators on the other hand... Before the replay was even aired the commentator was jumping to Derby's defence saying the player had is arm by his side. The replay showed he clearly didn't. The commentator then shut the fc*k up. Aim your vitriol at the Sky cn*ts who for 5 minutes after the game finished failed to say the word Barnsley once. Refs are just humans trying their best and getting it wrong.
You are right about sky. Re the pen, I was certain it was a pen as soon as I saw it. I appreciate referees aren’t consciously biased. But they are affected by their surroundings and I am fairly sure if Rooney struck that into Diaby’s arm he would have pointed to the spot. He was also straight in front of the incident so had a perfect view. The rule is that if you make your body bigger by using your arm or hand, it’s handball. Which is what happened and it cost us a point most likely. the statistics regarding penalties in our favour are a bit odd.
I agree with you it was a penalty, but I just think the ref wasn't sure, and in real time I wasn't sure. I was after seeing the replay, but not at the time. The statistics over the last couple of season or so regarding penalties are odd. Over the last 20 years they're not, they're even, I've posted them on here, which suggests there have been years where they've been odd in our favour.
Didn’t realise that with the statistics I guess we did get quite a few in the year we went up to the prem.
I compared us to Charlton (i think), who someone mentioned had been awarded loads of penalties while we'd been given bugger all, and in the time frame that the website covered we'd been awarded more penalties than them, although it was very even. We've had a bad couple of years, but then last season we took every opportunity to shoot from outside the box. Things don't even themselves out of a season. That's a fallacy. But only because it isn't nearly a big enough sample size. When you start looking over decades then they do.
Yep I think I may have started the thread because they have had 15 pens in last 45 games , but didn’t see your post. I obviously lost interest in the thread and started posting about some other random bollx
