Shouldn't have been sacked for that. It was his way of saying he's not so good at races. He also needs better friends.

Agreed. It was an unbelievably vindictive thing to do.

But surely if he felt his sacking was wrong why didn’t he go through the appeals process

It was a joke, albeit a bad joke in poor taste but no way does it warrant dismissal in my opinion. What has happened to people's senses of humour and perspective.

Oh and what is it with so called mates doing stuff like this? Didn't a Labour MP get sh*t on by a so called mate during the General Election who leaked a 'private' conversation. They're not mates, they're snakes who deserve some karma.

    I find this story incredible.
Firstly what sort of mate would do such a thing even if you’ve had a falling out over something
Second the punishment is totally out of proportion to the crime I don’t understand this at all
Third the behaviour of the media in this and the fact the guy needed police protection It’s a world gone mad
And as he points out make a private joke get fired as a ref. Make public racist comments and you can run the country. It’s bonkers

Having a disabled missus and reading what he said, I would find that quite funny. I am always taking the P out of her and me pushing her wheelchair....mainly me and the fact that when p155ed I would fall flat on my face if her chair wasn't there to support me. All our mates take the p155 too....wouldn't have it any other way, helps deal with it and makes things "normal".

Terrible decision to sack him. Actually quite a funny joke to be fair too. Told to a friend without the intention of hurting anyone. It's not discrimination, the butt of the joke is actually himself.

The worlds gone mad. If we’re been honest most of us would be in bother if things we shared between mates were made public. We regularly take the piss out of each other but don’t mean it. Taken out of context & we’d end up in bother.

Such a shame his careers been ruined over this

I dont think its the joke as such, more the videoing of this bloke behind his back in order to make the joke. Tbh , you watch the last leg and it's full of stuff like that. Maybe it was used as an excuse to get rid because of other issues?

My initial thought when reading the article, was it’s a very harsh decision and once again Football had missed an opportunity in that they could have given him a warning, get him to do a Paul Merson esq press conference followed with a ‘re-education programme’ (there’s probably a better phrase for it).
But then I started to think how if he was managing a game, the chances of being abused by supporters would be high and would probably have a negative effect on the game overall. So perhaps they felt removing him from that scenario was best all round.
    Still think it’s harsh though

I can understand why a Tory would stitch up his Labour MP ‘mate’ in this way, but what would someone have to gain by doing this to a referee? Just seems nasty and malicious.

I do wonder how in today's society how we seem to have missed out the official/ public bollocking/warning stage and gone straight to sacking folk

I can't, it is beyond my understanding that anyone would stitch up a mate just becuase they have a different political view or because they have a high profile job. Maybe I'm just old fashioned with my views on loyalty / friendship but doing this to a mate crosses a line that I wouldn't cross. I wouldn't even stitch up somebody in this manner that I didn't particularly like. A mate having different political views or being a premier leage ref is no excuse for doing this; as I said above it just says the person doing the stitching up is a snake.

I understand the motivation, but the behaviour is equally reprehensible in both scenarios.

While we're on the subject of mental health in another thread regarding Chris Barker. Taking someone's livelihood away after such a flippant comment can quickly destroy their mental well being and lead to a downward spiral in general health. The authorities ought to think long and hard about the repercussions before hanging people out to dry.

someone made up he had sex with a dog and put it on social media, then someone said they seen the video and he was disgusting!!!!
All social media should be shut down and if anyone actually watched a video of such an act, even though this was totally made up,they are surely equally disgusting for watching such things, how can people put such lies and spread hate to ruin lives, world is a very dark place now
