I know it;s been said before how bonkers it is that the World Cup is going to Qatar, but I've just been looking at the stadia for the World Cup.

Unbelievably, 7 out of 8 stadia are in Doha, with only one further up the coast. The population of Doha is less than 3 million, yet they now have 8 stadia of 40,000 - 80,000 capacity. Some of the grounds are a couple of kilometers away from each other.
The population of Qatar is approximately 600, 000. So basically there are 2-3 inhabitants per seat available in the 7 stadia in the city. I presume that one the show is over, it will all be torn down.

Absolutely scandalous that the World Cup is going there.

FIFA is just like most political systems including our own. Corrupt to the core.

With the close proximity it could be the best World Cup ever for someone going, all the grounds close to each other, no worrying about flights getting booked at last moment when your team don’t finish the groups as expected. But on the other hand, there’s no drinking there which is rubbish for football fans. And anyone going will be either extremely lucky or super rich to secure accommodation for the tournament. There’s no way there’s enough hotel rooms to fit all the traveling supporters and media.

If you analyse the whole thing properly there’s significantly more cons hosting in Qatar. Horrendous decision.

Part of Qatar's manifesto was that the stadia would be temporary. The plan was (it is probably still the case, but I've not kept on top of the news) to dismantle them, and transport them to poorer countries.

    I didn’t know this.

It has been reported there has been numerous deaths building these stadiums in ridiculous heat, if this is still the case that stadiums will be taken down after then maybe there’s going to be a few more once the tournament is finished dismantling in all that heat again.

    Awful they’ve allowed this.

When they were discussing moving it to winter Blatter actually said that they didn't know how hot it was in summer in that part of the world.

I mean corrupt or not every single one of them needed sacking for that level of ignorance alone.

What’s even more annoying is they’ve broke their own rules to host it there. You used to only be able to have two stadiums in one city to ensure games were spread out around the country.

I must be way off the mark. I thought that the World Cup was supposed to leave a ‘legacy ‘ behind to help the citizens of the host country and to promote the game of football. The way it’s described above looks like a travelling circus taking advantage of whatever is available.

It’s awful. All them deaths for stadiums that will be destroyed soon after. What a waste.

The World Cup should be held in countries with a passion for football where the stadiums will be used afterwards, like the 2006 World Cup in Germany

A joke to award them the WC, all to do with back handers no doubt. The country is the same size as yorkshire but mainly desert and a pop the same as Merseyside
