Well at least some good came of it then. Nice to see them in the festive spirit. Swapping Xmas presents. Handbags for the WAGS.
He gave us a penalty for by far the least clear of about three shouts we had to be given one. He was responsible for the big brawl because he was inept enough to not give us the foul. Never been a Stroud fan.
I’m over the moon we finally got a penalty, but like you said those two in the first half were clear cut. Firstly the hand ball from where I was wasn’t in question. Then just before half time on Chaplin is the most blatant you’ll see. Both him and the lino were in perfect positions to see it. To be fair he’s probably watched that back and it’s influenced him to give to pen he did.
The one on Chaplin looked nailed on. The defender had no clue Chaplin was there, and Chaplin beat him to the ball. Had to be a pen.
From where I was sat the two fouls looked nailed on, but the ref had a better view and if he’s decided they’re not fouls then giving a foul for the handball is the ‘correct’ decision. It was wrong - it led to a mass brawl, but he’ll be able to defend his decision
Chaplin was in the officials ear just after ref had blown for half time I’m pretty sure that was in the refs mind in the 2nd half knowing he’d owed us one
I got the impression that he thought we had all gone along to watch him. I know that the players should control themselves, but the fracas that resulted in 3 yellow cards was entirely his fault. Referees must be able to manage situations and he did not do so.
It’s really difficult to stick up for refs look at the leeds game yesterday. Never in a million years would we get that penalty decision and ref also randomly sends off a Cardiff player
If anyone does write to Mike Riley, could they please also ask him, as the match referee, how the assault on Andy Liddell by Gary Neville at Old Trafford in 1998 wasn’t a pen.
True though in fairness Leeds has a stonewalled turned down before the one they were given. Guessing he had been told he got that wrong so looked to even it up. The red card was a joke. Solid yellow for me. Was the sending off for violent conduct or last man? In either case it was wrong. Hate Cardiff and their manager with a passion bu had to laugh at Leeds throwing away a 3 goal lead and against 10 men
Unbelievable. He must have forgotten which way the teams were playing then been too embarrassed to correct his decision. Aside from being inept that is the only reason I can think of for giving the free kick the way he did.
