At the weekend Sam Saunders eluded to us losing the keeper, two centre halves and centre forward, losing the experience and needing some to replace it. Last night, Stephen Warnock and Colin Murray say we have a lot going for us, but we need experience and essentially said we are this season’s Rotherham. Warnock saying we need know how, either in centre midfield or centre back. And that having one goal scorer in Woodrow isn’t enough, we need goals from elsewhere. Like another centre forward maybe. I hope Mr Conway is going to call up Quest and inform them of their errors, as we don’t lack quality or experience. We have veterans and players who will prove to be better than those they replaced. He’s told us that. We just need a smaller squad as it’s too big. Sell a few in January without replacing them and we’ll be fine. I can’t believe Quest would have presenters and ex-pro pundits who’d make such errors - you’d think they, after years and years in the game, would know what they were talking about...
I watched that programme and have to say I agreed with every word they said. It looks as though we are not disimilar to Norwich and Ipswich, re- OK in the league below, but not good enough for the one we are now playing in. Having said that, I seriously question whether this current squad would be successful in league one. Realistically unless additions were made, we would be lucky to achieve a place in the top ten.
This squad minus Woodrow and Mowatt, which it will be next season, would struggle to make top half in L1. Recruits in January need to be with an eye on next season. Hard to see where we recruit from though. Players at top half L1 clubs probably wouldn’t come so I guess we’d be looking at bottom half L1 or alternatively L2 players. I’ve awful feeling we’ll be scouring Europe again, most likely Austria. That’s not gone well so far either....
They're not saying anything that most of us don't already know. Unfortunately our owners know better, or they think they do.
