    ...if it’s clear the season is over half way through, it’s customary to almost deliberately tank the rest. It’s called ‘shutting it down’. The motivations are slightly different (in NFL it’s getting a higher draft pick, in baseball just saving money) but it basically means cutting your losses and writing off the season

    I think these guys will shut it down in January. I’m not sure how we’ll tell the difference on the pitch, mind.

    Interesting. Hadn’t heard that. Will be the justification for mowatt and Woodrow being sold I’ll wager.

    It will be interesting to see their approach to opening it up again next summer...
