The young uns never believe me when I tell them that I remember when Chelsea were a second division team playing the likes of Barnsley with lower average crowds than we had.
I remember when we beat them 4-0 in the FA cup in the late 80s. Was in London at the time in a pub and some bloke, obviously a Chelsea fan, asked his mates how they'd got on that day. One of them said 'we lost 4-0 to Bradford'. Felt like screaming ' you lost 4-0 to Barnsley you stupid thick ignorant cockney!' But as there were 4 of them I decided descretion was the better part of valour.
Only Newcastle and Wednesday with (slightly) higher home crowds. Got to say I'm surprised and impressed by that.
Some things don't change do they. At least they got the right county and didn't think that they had lost to Burnley.
Interestingly there are four clubs on that list with lower gates than the reds who are now in the premiership
