Many years ago on TV there was a programme called Top Towns or summat similar. Contestants from two towns battled out a talent contest with each week being Two different towns . This particular show had Barnsley v Wakefield with Eddie Waring being one of the judges . On the show Barnsley did an hilarious song and act called “Wheers the Goyle Oyle” and had the singers dressed as 1800s footballers . I think if memory serves Barnsley actually won the show with Eddie Waring favouring the Wakefield side because of the rugby but we’re disqualified soon after . Think it was late seventies early eighties and I just wondered if anyone had any footage especially of the song they could post . It was a funny song and with our current infrequent goals it would be fitting . Cheers in advance .
I'm guessing it would be the 50's era one as Waring died in 86 before the revival one happened in 87. Bit of info here, no footage though. http://www.jsf.hiddentigerbooks.co.uk/history_toptown_main.htm
No this one was a TV show I think it only lasted one series . It’s not necessarily called Top Towns tbh , my memories not as good but I can vaguely remember it .
