Feel for Schmidt - come over here thinking it'd be a great move for his career. I think he might be a decent player, but the team is so under-prepared he's not going to be able to show what he's got
Unless something changes, we'll do well to attract any new talent. The quantity over quality approach means we've ended up with too many young players whose careers are, at best, stagnating. There's almost an entire starting eleven now plying their trade in the U23s. Won't be long before word gets round - come to Barnsley and disappear.
No idea if Schmidt is any good or not. But what I do know is that other than Glavin, Hignett, Currie and Winnall, I wouldn't have backed any player I've seen play for us in the last 40 years to finish that chance he made look easy on Saturday.
