Watching NZ v GB and noticed the scrums are uncontested. Is this the rule, is it a gentleman's agreement I.e. could they contest it if they wanted, NZ had a scrum on the GB line first half and in RU they would have tried to power over but they hardly touched each other.

I’ve never understood this either. If it’s just a means of restarting play after an infringement, why not just let them take a tap and go?

Its to make the game faster as scrums wouldn’t need to be reset think the used to be contested, not sure if they talking about abolishing it!

Yes the scrums can be contested but it’s generally just seen as a way to re-start the game. There has been talk of abolishing them for years but it’s never materialised for whatever reason.

Years ago scrums were contested.if you threw the ball straight in to your hooker you would get penalised for feeding The last scrum i saw won against the feed was wakefield trinity v halifax in challenge cup. For some reason its the norm now to just feed the ball to the hooker.

When I played for Donny in the 94 season the ball was going straight in the scrum via the second row not improved since we don’t really need a scrum any more just tap and go instead would be better
The scrum is the only part of union i like ball goes straight in at the front row so either team has a chance of winning it
