The spirit in the team and, but for a couple of exceptions, their willingness to leave everything they have out on the pitch. Because of that I can see us getting a few more last minute equalisers against teams who try to shut up shop. And a number of maulings against teams who don't shut up shop and continue to exploit the space behind us as we push forward. But it's no surprise to me we haven't won a game since the opening day. If we get in front or the game remains level and the opposition have to come at us to get the points we simply buckle. It's highly unlikely we'll go through the season without winning a game. But I can't see there being many. There should be plenty of praise for the way we drew level yesterday. But that's an entirely different animal to getting in front and seeing out the match and I've seen nothing to suggest we've got that in us.
I can see why neutrals see us differently to us though, they see the the good attacking play and willingness to keep at it,although they see the defensive mistakes they aren’t on their nerve endings because of the attachment. A real leader in the centre of defence is a must for me somebody with the confidence and charisma to say who should be marking who, where and when, b.ollocks to the zonal stuff. That would settle a lot of nerves on and off the pitch.
We've drawn 6 matches this season and I honestly believe if we had a quality central defender too organise us at the back, we'd have won four of those matches and be in lower mid table, lightening the mood on here and in the stands. But again, if my auntie had b0llocks, and all that...
I agree that the defence still needs tightening up, but we could have been 4-0 up before City scored. For me, failure to take our chances is a bigger issue than the defending.
Just watched the whole game back and the effort, drive and full blooded commitment to the cause cannot be faulted. These lads are giving absolutely everything. And there's plenty of ability as well. They deserve more, but as Jay says getting in front and seeing a game out seems to be beyond them at the moment. That comes with experience and nous, which we're definitely lacking.
We've conceded more goals than any other team, and only 3 teams have scored fewer (Stoke, Middlesbrough and Wigan). That would suggest that we have problems at both ends.
