I'm puzzled that Adam Murray was given the nod over Martin for caretaker manager. Martin has more experience closer to the first team standard, seeing as he's manager of the u-23's and Daniel Stendel was in effect manager of the u-24's.! This years results, with half his team already playing or vying for first team breakthroughs, is played 10, won 5 lost 5, with 15 points gained. Team against Wednesday: Radlinger, Green (Helliwell, 80), Pache, Fielding (c), Barnett, Oduor, Simoes, Styles, Thomas (Palmer, 62), Schmidt, Wilks (Mottley-Henry, 62). Goals from Fielding, Thomas and Schmidt sealed the points. Just seems strange that to me the obvious candidate has been ignored I'd rather he had a go and I think he'd have the support of the majority?
As others have said, I don't care who the next manager is. He'll have to work with players he didn't choose, some of whom he doesn't rate. He'll be told by football ignoramuses who should play, he'll have players sold from under his feet in January, and other players added to the squad without his input. He'll then be blamed if we get relegated in May. Who on earth would do that job? I'd rather open a sunbed studio in the Sahara.
Maybe it was made clear the job would be going to an external candidate and that the job was just temp? Maybe he turned it down because, obviously most managers last less than 2 seasons and then he'd be jobless, whereas you've got the chance of keepig your job at U23 level for longer?
I've been toying with watching his interview... but I can't bring myself to do so. I watched his first and really didn't like what I saw, so I've consciously chosen not to watch any others. As for whether he gets it or not, I genuinely don't care. Whoever is appointed won't paper over the cracks of the disgusting treatment of Daniel. And as others have said, so much of any potential success will be dictated by the owners and how quickly they sell players.
You have the right not to read it. Though i'm palpably surprised, with you being sooooo bored with the predictability, that you chose to be energised sufficiently to put fingers to keys.
Always 2 sides to a story. And whilst I agree it appears it could have been handled better, we’ll possibly never know.
Same reason DS was pushed out, Devaney was asked but said they needed a couple of experienced players so Murray was asked instead. Disco is being considered for the Morecambe job
I've said this since DS left, Devaney to me would be the ideal man for the job. Also, got a bet on him at 14/1 so here's me hoping.
Oh god not Disco. We love the guy, so we dont want him leaving in another 6 months after he falls out with the board! His long term future is hopefully at Barnsley u23, not Cheltenham after being sacked as Barnsley manager
Daniel Stendhal has been spotted in Tarn this week... is he here for secret talks, or is he a sky commentator tonight?
