Surely on their wages they could afford a taxi! Ollie Mcburnie the latest one.

Youd be surprised how many drink drive fullstop.

They're insulated from real life consequences by money.

Money and time on their hands. I suspect it’s also why so many footballers have so many tattoos

One in 395 people with a licence in UK are convicted of drink driving every year. There are 3700 professional footballers in the UK which means that if 10 professional footballers are convicted of drink driving each year that is no different than the national average.

The amount of people drink driving and not getting caught is absolutely astronomical, a survey in 2015 found that 10million UK drivers admit to drink driving but simply haven't been caught.

He's a moron and so is anyone else who gets behind the wheel when they are over the limit.

Being a nice lad who played well for us shouldn't cloud peoples judgement on this and hopefully it doesn't. He needs punishing just like Bennett and Lawrence.

I agree to an extent but I'd imagine of the people that do drink and drive, they do so to avoid financial inconvenience etc... there is no excuse whatsoever for footballers earning in a week what most of us earn in an entire year.

Just to add- this isn't a valid excuse for anyone else either, just pointing out why people do it.

There's no excuse for anyone. If it inconveniences you a little bit financially then don't drink in the first place.

Sorry but you’ve really misjudged this. If you can’t afford a taxi you can’t afford to get pissed and petrol. Very lazy excuse. Taxis are not an impossible luxury that most couldn’t afford.

For my money anyone caught drink driving should be banned for life from driving. No second chances, no mitigating circumstances just banned for life. Then they can drink as much as they like.

Sorry but I've think you've misjudged this.... I am not condoning it in any shape or form. I am saying that that is one of the reasons people get tempted- doesn't mean I think it is an acceptable one.

This doesn't need to be a point scoring fight for moral high ground because we all share the same beliefs around drink driving.

Nobody is point scoring- if that was your intention it wasn’t too clear and I was simply expressing my thoughts on what I understood to be your point. If you read up it looks like a few interpreted the same.

No much as I think Drink Driving is completely wrong that penalty is too severe - are you really saying that say a 17 year old who has a couple of drinks should be banned for his/her entire life even when they get more mature and realise the error of their ways.

On reflection if I think back quite a long time I suspect there are a few occasions I may have been in danger of failing a test the morning after - it wasnt something I ever thought about years ago Though I do now. Even though I have always been careful to never drink and drive anyone can make that sort of mistake - Had I failed a test under those circumstances it would have made sure I never did that again and a lifetime ban would just have been too severe in my opinion.

Perhaps it could be tweaked. Certain percentage over the limit then a retest required to drive again. Then at a certain point over the limit bring the lifetime ban in.

    I would. **** em.

If you are stupid enough to drive pissed regardless of age then you are too stupid to be allowed on the road fullstop.

Same with drug driving and mobile phones
