Every goal we concede our players are nowhere near marking the goalscorer... Its school boy stuff... I'm also surprised stendel hasn't sorted it cos most German manager's build on a solid back 4

Said the same at the game last night. All over the pitch we never seem tight enough. It’s fine when when it’s the opposition centre backs doing nothing with it but when it’s gets to our final third, we’re still not quite tight enough.

It’s a good job Derby were slow going forward.

We can’t deal with it because other Clubs cheat. Their players keep moving around.

An experienced centre half would have been my first thought...

Might be old fashioned but I hate zonal marking( it’s patently not working for us) for me you can’t beat man to man with talking amongst the defenders to pick up the odd descrep

Nail on the head. It is the modern approach for similar managers as DS. With the level of inexperience we have it does have to be questioned. Brentford was a prime example of this. Watkins will never score an easier hat trick. 2nd goal he was unchallenged, with Cavare a matter of feet away from him for the cross.

I don’t think you can deploy man to man marking AND a pressing game - at set pieces in the box that might be the case, but we haven’t conceded those type of goals they’ve come from more open play. Like any system or strategy it’s effectiveness is dictated by those implementing it- the idea itself has merits and is used all over the world.
