Never watch the PMQ on a Wednesday I just find it embarrassing, grown adults heckling and waving handkerchiefs about like something from days gone by, I am however going to give it a watch today ( albeit hid behind the sofa cringing) to see how Abbott gets on

Abbott is a decent hard working MP scapegoated by the media after making similar errors as other people have from across the house!

I'd be far more concerned that we have a prime minister stirring up hatred and division than what Abbott may or may not say...

Its just depressing all round really. I'm sure Abbott is hard working, I'm sure she tries her best. She is prone to disastrous moments of presentation that make her look a liability and don't assist in making the shadow cabinet look competent and in waiting. Typically she carries on digging before vanishing for a bit. But yes, she is not alone in that regard, but that doesn't make her someone I'd want in government either.

As you rightly say, on the other side, we then have the charlatan careerists with no morality that have shifted to far right to outdo ukip, the Brexit party and BNP with knobs on and have a bit of a tendency to lie, cheat, defraud and fel they are above everyone while pretending they are on everyones side. Populism has much to answer for.

It's got to the point where the whole thing annoys me, from the phraseology (the honourable member for .....) to the childish jeering and cheering, the waving of papers, banging on the door by Black Rod etc etc. What I once thought of as valuable traditions I now consider as illustrations of how inefficient and ineffective parliament is. The dress code may be business dress but in reality they couldn't be less business-like. Change is overdue, the whole thing needs modernisation in my view.

Totally agree, it's no wonder many countries look upon them (us) as eccentric lunatics stuck in the 1800s

What amazes me about politicians is alot of em' have never lifted a stroke in their lives but determine the path of our lives.

I strongly recommend a book called "Why we get the wrong politicians"

Charts the path of campaigning to be selected to contest a seat and the cost of doing so, through to winning a seat, what it takes to be an MP for a constituency, the rises the falls and being finally deposed. Also runs through their primary role as legislators and opens the lid on committees that approve secondary legislation that doesn't pass through the Commons.

Very interesting read. Though I can't say politics works at the moment, for anyone, the system frankly doesn't allow them to and the ultimate power is in the Whips Office of each party. Remove that and allow politicians to do what they are supposed to do and remove the liars and sycophants and I think we'd have a better starting point. But the biggest challenge is shaping the Commons with a more representative reach, while retaining enough technical legislators that can review, amend and approve line detail in bills put forward that just aren't good enough.
