Didn't realise there were so many of you! Over the years how much have you spent on following BFC -- 10,000 pounds? has your love for the club got stronger over the years? have you ever been unfaithful ? (i.e. supported another club) has your love for the club affected any large decisions? e.g. couldn't consider moving from Barnsley to go to college or get a new job, couldn't partner up with a non BFC supporter
I haven't the foggiest how much I've spent on supporting the club. My love for the club has grown over the years, especially as I appreciate my time supporting it is gradually coming to it's end due to my age. When at Junior, then High, School in order to 'fit in' with the cool kids, I claimed to follow Leeds & then Liverpool. However, I only ever went to watch Barnsley and they've always been my true love. We deliberately got married during the close season of 1984 to avoid missing any games.
I watched Leeds on and off in the early 70s until Sam Yates persuaded me that Oakwell was a much finer place to be on a regular basis and how right he was. Loved that era of the early 70s
Off topic I know but it’s one for the old-uns Do you realise that The Beatles Sgt Pepper album was recorded nearer to the end of the 1ST WORLD WAR than today. Now how old do you feel???
Whats's that you say young feller? were they one of them popular beat combo thingies back in the day?
Cost more than I care to work out and caused more marital strife than I care to remember! Love for the club didn't stop me moving away ( you eventually realise family comes first) . Still love the club as much as ever but don't travel ( home or away) as much as I used to as life gets in the way.
Just had an approximate given today’s prices. Bloody hell. 53 yrs . Average for home games including programmes merchandise season ticket. Taking Young in his early years pre match pints.. at a moderate estimate £700 per year ( circa £35,000) Dare not estimate away. If you say same again given probably 30+ years worth of away games. . Kin hell I could have retired 4 yrs ago. Don’t tell the missus for God’s sake. Holidays. work standby swaps. ( never missed a home game through work.) Married early July. Luckily kids weren’t born on match days. FAO MI COUSIN. Tha to blame.
Over the years how much have you spent on following BFC -- 10,000 pounds? No idea but its going to be well above £10000 when you factor in travel - in fact its several thousand pounds in season tickets alone over the last 15 years or so has your love for the club got stronger over the years? Its got stronger and weaker - it was when we nearly went under in the admin year I realised I had taken it for granted and I discovered I would be really unhappy if it wasnt there anymore have you ever been unfaithful ? (i.e. supported another club) Not really - I have been to watch other clubs but its not the same - I used to go to Anfield several times a season when I was a student there but when they played us in the cup there was only one end I was ever going in. Sometimes though it is better to watch another team as its nothing like as upsetting when they lose has your love for the club affected any large decisions? e.g. couldn't consider moving from Barnsley to go to college or get a new job, couldn't partner up with a non BFC supporter No - Married to a football hating wife and lived in Surrey as I followed her down here - Id have stayed up north and ditched her if BFC had been a higher priority
Over the years how much have you spent on following BFC -- 10,000 pounds? I dread to think, but living about 40 miles from Barnsley I would guess travel costs have cost me more than tickets. has your love for the club got stronger over the years? I'm comfortable with them now. When I was younger I was addicted, but now they are just the team I treasure. Similar to my marriage, am happy enough to see the old girl once a fortnight have you ever been unfaithful ? (i.e. supported another club) Always had a soft spot for Bradford City cos they are my home town team. Don't mention it to Nudger as it is against the law to follow anybody other than your hometown team. has your love for the club affected any large decisions? Not major, but it definitely affected my social life in my teens. Much preferred the idea of a full Satdi devoted to BFC than I did finding a steady bird.
moved to barnsley in 79 from donny ( yes i used to watch the pikeys as a kid) i was in the army so it was hit and miss with games bit hard to nip home from germany/ hong kong to watch the reds, so this is my 40th year
