    A casino/nightclub in monk Breton in late 60’s

    Was near roundabout where St. Helens way and Sainsbury’s is now

    Can anyone remember name of it

    Monk Breton Social Club ( rings a bell) used to go and they had top turns I think the owners had a neet club in Sheffield and sent there turns to Monk Breton once so Tammy Lynn there and many more but can not remember their names.

    Owned by Baileys turn did early spot at Monk Bretton then late spot at Cavendish. Saw Georgie Fame there less than 10 people in.

    I was a regular in there. Started off as Monk Bretton Social Club. A CISWO club originally (pit club) and included a bowling alley. Then Baileys took it over and made it a nightclub and put casino in. Then later it became the Londoner and a pub. Then it burned down.

    Do you mean Bub who weighed in at 20odd stone, if so I remember him from Dodworth pit he was a timber lad I think, once so him laying on a tram with a sprained ankle in the pit bottom, only why they could get him out of the pit.
