I don’t know how you came up with that interpretation because that’s not what i said at all. I said 52% is not the will of the people .
Taking almost half the voters kicking and screaming is not the will of the people . A small majority yes but not the will of the people .
It seems democracy is okay when you win. "In a 52-48 referendum this would be unfinished business by a long way. If the Remain campaign win two-thirds to one-third that ends it." https://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/nigel-farage-wants-second-referendum-79850 Results of the 2016 United Kingdom European Union membership referendum. Votes % Leave 17,410,742 51.89% Remain 16,141,241 48.11% Valid votes 33,551,983 99.92% Invalid or blank votes 25,359 0.08%
Out of the number of people who chose to vote more (by over 1m people) elected to leave the EU. The ballot paper agreed by MPs said leave or remain. Simple.
Brexit has all but destroyed Labour and the Tories. Farage with his party of 29 members will have a field day in the EU Parliament. When the UK leave the 73 UK seats they will be 'vacating' at the EU Parliament will be redistributed -- 5 Extra MEP each for France and Spain, 3 each for Italy and the Netherlands, 2 for Ireland and 1 each for another 8 countries. The remaining 'vacant' sets will not be taken so the Parliament will be smaller. It is in everyone's interest to get Brexit moving - but we will not be 'leaving' on the 31 October or whenever but the process which will take many years will have started. The 'Remainers' reckon we leavers didn't know what we voted for - but did they know what they voted for? Look at the dominant parties in Italy - France - Hungary - check the Russain influence in the Eastern EU countries.do you really want to be part of the same group as them. Will you have any say in who will be the next President of the EU etc. And finally for the moaning Remainers I'd say - we had a DEMOCRTIC vote - you lost - stop whinging and behaving like bad losers.
The Referendum Act is silent on the size of the majority needed. It assumes usual practice. For a constitutional change of this type, normal practice is a 2/3 majority is required. I am amazed there has not been a legal challenge.
Choose how you dress it up a 3% majority is NOT by any stretch of whoever’s imagination the will of the people .
