Going on Monday for 3 nights, is it a cheap for ale as it's made out to be & pictures I see of ale seem to be half liquid n half froth, now then this is the Yorkshire man coming out in me but you get a 0.5 ltr. As advertised? Also where is the best places to go for let's say a more relaxing break rather than full on mad house **** up? My main concern though is the flight out at 16:15 from Manchester, do these flights usually consist of p1ssed up stag or hen parties, now that would stress me to the max. Thank you in advance.
I've been a couple of times with the missus and once on the plane there were stay do but no trouble. Dont often see them out and about. Restaurant on the river just north of the Charles bridge is quality but expect same prices to a meal out in Leeds.
Also we stayed at the kings court hotel which has a very good breakfast and is reasonable, it's near the powder tower where the 1920's music hall is and a short walk from here there is a gŕeat little cafe with some good cakes in the window, should defiantly check it out.
We're based in the Branik area so by the looks of it we may have to get a tram although I wouldn't mind the walk.
We went about 10 years ago on a Stag do back then it was a hell hole, although down by the river is beautiful and yes the ale is cheap, very cheap. Soon after we had been the locals had had enough of the seedy reputation Prague was getting and a massive clamp down began on the more nefarious aspects the city had attracted and so I'm told it is a far more welcoming place to visit, this is great news because it truly is a beautiful location. Enjoy.
to get the spirit of Prague listen to Smetena's Vltava (The Moldau) on You Tube. Prague a brilliant City - birth place of my late grandmother who survived Hitler's Death Camps - she eventually ended up in the UK and would listen to this piece of music daily with tears in her eyes. (Her parents, 2 sisters and 2 brothers didn't survive the Holocaust.)
I’d echo that, beautiful city but 10 years ago full of stag do’s and Louts but you dont go the places they go so its not a problem. Beer cheap, food as good as anywhere else, natives friendly but as in any city keep your wits about you and your pockets zipped up. Mobile in the back jeans pocket wont stay yours for long. Enjoy !
I went to Prague in 1991. Got off the train at 6am, and changed £10 to the local currency. Went to a sandwich stall for breakfast and asked for a sandwich. It came to 6p, so ended up having 3. Struggled to spend the £10 in a day including buying a 1litre bottle of vodka and a very large knickerbocker glory just in a restaurant off Wenceslas Square. I suspect it might be a tad more expensive now!
Other side of Charles bridge was around a pound a pint and well away from square was same . In the square it was just like being in Uk paying 4£ a pint . Walked up to vineyard one day and that was a good day .
Recommend bars Beer Geek, U dvou koček, and for late night cocktails the Black Angel’s Bar. Different good food at Chilli Point. All central. Of course lots of others as well!
We last went in 2006....the prices in the city centre were standard prices you'd pay anywhere...out of town and they drop like a stone. We stopped in Prague 2 and ate out at a nearby bar, the food was excellent...try wild boar, it's awesome. Beer was very nice, Staropramen do a dark beer and a stout, the other brewer Krusowice is crap by comparison, or at least it was in our hotel. Budweiser Budvar and Pilsner Urquell are also excellent. The Czechs make spirits out of everything, some of those are wonderful too. One bit of advice I would give...the public transport is good and cheap, make sure though that you validate the ticket, they do check and they don't take fare dodging lightly.
Me too, 2001, went over on an overnight sleeper train from Cologne and arrived in the morning. My mate and I met a lovely Glaswegian bloke and decided to go for breakfast. Dishes were about 50p and large beers the same. We were very hungry and worried we wouldn't get fed with these side dishes so ordered about 4 each to the wide eyed waitress. What followed was beers coming out in what looked like large vases and 12 adult meals in a Henry VIII style banquet. We ended out drinking into the early hours and partying in what looked like a post - zombie apocalypse Debenhams , glam rock disco accessed by three escalators. In the square afterwards my mate got arrested by a flashing lights police car for playing a Tom waits song with too much vigour until everyone had a whip round and paid the police off, getting a little purple raffle ticket style receipt. Great day!
Went into the old town and passed a sex machine museum. Just popped my head in foyer to have a sneaky look. Her indoors would have been aghast if I’d paid to go in. Pissed missen laffin at a couple of contraptions in doorway.(1 being a wheel turned by hand with fake tongues lashed to it. Called clitoris stimulator) Maybe one or two you that’s bin to Prague ventured in and could enlighten us. . Just thought I’d lower the tone.
I literally nearly died in Prague . Sex was cheap and so was the beer and drugs. The best weekend ever but if my mate hadn't collered me, I'd be still there, in a ditch.
Went last August (blisteringly hot!) we found loads of bars selling good beer at reasonable prices and visited a couple of breweries. I'd recommend U Fleků which is a brewery with beer hall and outside sitting area - don't accept the sweet liqueurs that they offer you, they are not free..... The bar at the monastery (near the castle) was good with their own beer and spectacular views across the city. There's a nice bar near the John Lennon wall (more or less under Charles Bridge at the western end)
