There’s rumours going around about Kieffer being on the transfer radar of other clubs. Other Barnsley players will also be attracting attention. We are getting to know - although it’s drip by drip - of how the recruitment system works at Barnsley. Basically Stendel is shown videos of a few players that have been identified by the recruitment team for a certain position - and Stendel chooses one of the players. He, Stendel, doesn’t seem to have a say on who is sold eg Potts. Now we know something went wrong between the new owners and Hecky. Much of that seems to be centred on disagreements surrounding recruitment. Fingers crossed that Stendel dosen’t get wrapped up in disagreements with the new owners over the potential sale of Kieffer and other Barnsley players. We don’t want history to repeat itself.
Episode 67 in a summer long series There will ALWAYS be rumours about our players when times are good. It's a sign of things going well. I'd rather that than have a team of dross (McNulty, Gibbs etc) that we were resigned to starting next season with. If anybody leaves, it is on our terms. That's a good position to be in
Easy answer on this new boss wont take any ****. Think his stock is high and even though great relationship with fans if he felt he was been sold short wouldn’t take any ****. Also new regime so how can we judge what they’re going to do? Superb teams interested in our players as shows great recruitment and we’re doing well. Settle down take it as a complement and let’s see how things go before pre judging! Conway said we’re planning mid table stability then pushing on. Yes we will have to self generate and maybe if good price Kieffer might be the one but the replacement for last striker leaving is an upgrade!!
I always remember Michael Chopra. He couldn't stop scoring when he played for the Reds and Cardiff City. However, he found it very difficult to get the goals when he was at Newcastle and in the six seasons he was there, he scored once. When he also played in the Premiership for Sunderland, over two seasons, he got eight in a total of thirty nine appearances. The highest that Kieffer has played has been the Championship when he failed the hit the net, in his eleven appearances for Ipswich Town. In League One, as we know the lad is prolific as demonstrated during his time at Rotherham and at Oakwell. Don't get me wrong, I rate him and am pleased that he plays for us, but his previous performances in the Championship begs the question, did Mick McCarthy know what he was doing by letting him leave Portman Road, particularly as they found goals very hard to come by.? Without any of us knowing the answer, I suppose the question is, if he stays, do we think he will be as consistent in getting the goals in the Championship as he has been in League One.?
Hecky one minute was saying he had a say and another that he wasn’t, all when it suited him. Pretty certain it was confirmed that Stendel was consulted before Potts was sold. We also know Stendel has been backed on his choices of players so not sure. So either you have made some huge assumptions or you are stirring for the sake of it.
Initial post isn’t an assessment of Kieffer Moore. It is a post that starts a discussion about the problems that might occur between Stendel and the new owners if players are sold that Stendel wants to keep - as we have been through all this with Hecky.
Isn't the issue relatively simple, we pay a lot less than other clubs in the championship so, sooner or later, our better players will leave. To maximise value we need to ensure that the club are able to identify the rising talent and tie them in to longer contracts, increasing resale value and in turn increasing the potential to pay Championship wages. This strategy is not risk free and signing players on longer contracts can backfire, Kevin Donovan and Mike Sheron to name but two, but it does appear from recent signings and contract extension there are changes happening. I think the intention of our new owners will become much clearer after the summer when the window is closed and we know the squad we have to make a fresh assault on the Championship. I'm going to enjoy the summer and start looking for excuses for an early July break in Nice.
Correct Ponty. He scored five in twenty games in the Championship for them and four in thirty appearances when Yeovil played in League One. It looks as though his goals to games ratio has improved, whenever he has had better quality players making any opportunities for him.
Losing Kieffer is least of my worries. Not to say I want him to go, but keeping our two CB's, Mowatt & Cauley would be massive next season to us staying up & doing OK. Kieffer isn't totally proven at that level, but I can see from this season why teams are interested in him & would be great if he signs a new contract.
I don't know about you, but I think Kieffer might do ok in the Championship. He's a year more experienced than last time we were there, with a year extra with the same squad.
