I imagine a few Wednesday fans today would happily end their outside chance of the play offs by wanting their team to lose to not help the Blunts charge towards the top flight.
Because it’s Sheffield that’s why. They don’t recognise any other competition only the team across the city.
So they put another clubs downfall before there own clubs chance of success ( success by way of a chance of the playoff Lottery) i think any fan who gets off on a rival losing before there own clubs success ( chance of ) ain't wired up right ( all opinions of course)
Wednesday fans will want to win while at the same time hoping United implode. I would have thought the chance of reaching the playoffs and beating United in them would be the stuff that dreams are made of on the Wednesday half of the city.
Having attended De La Salle College in Pitsmoor Sheffield for seven years, I can vouch that the rivallry between their respective supporters is intense. In my first term , we were put into colour coded houses. Being in the Saint Margaret Lockwood house , our team colours were green. For football, our strip was Emerald green shirts and socks and white shorts. At the time, the School didn't own Beauchief, so we played our games at Concorde Park which is very close to Rotherham. The first house game I played in , was against Kirkham who played in Yellow and Black. I looked round our dressing room and saw that only three of us were wearing the house green strip, the rest were wearing blue and white striped shirts, blue and white hooped socks and white shorts. As we left the dressing room, the opposition trotted out behind us wearing red and white striped shirts , black shorts and socks, apart from four, who were wearing the Kirkham kit. To say the game was like taking part in a War is no fantasy. How somebody didn't end up with a broken leg or a serious injury was a miracle. As a result of that game, a ban on wearing anything but your house kit was introduced. It didn't dampen the loyalty of the respective sets of fans. On several occasions I witnessed many a scrap in the playground and unerringly they were usually between a Wednesdayite or a Unitedite usually over a snide remark that one had made against the other.
Much as I can't stand either Wednesday or blunts. Living in Leeds I couldn't bear the thought of them going up so hoping for both dee dahs to win!
Late 1950's. Travelled every day from Donny. Around twenty boys on our bus attended DLS and approximately twenty three girls who after we had got off the bus at Pitsmoor, went on to Notre Dame Grammar School over the other side of the city.
We all hate the three so called massives in the championship some more than others. Playing devil's advocate. Would anyone be upset if Wednesday made the playoffs and won both blades and Leeds in the playoffs to be promoted instead of the others. I'm not sure what's the worse outcome of either of those getting promoted.
Leeds deserved the win. Kept a clean sheet, had two thirds of the possession and three times more shots. What a weird player they have though to react so badly to a peck on the cheek, God help him if a team mate came out as gay.....
