Is he going to go into business offering 'protection' insurance? - he seems well qualified on all counts...

One of the lesser-celebrated highlights of our season in the top flight was the tussle between Redders and Vinnie in the home game against Wimbledon. Two hard-tackling players who were totally committed but they laughed and joked with each other for the full 90 minutes. On the other hand, I remember the young Beckham waggling his imaginary card at the ref when Redders tackled him!

Watching that footage, nearly every challenge would be a red card in this era. Other thing that stands out is that many of the players who Jones takes out just get up and on with it. McMahon, Cantona particularly.

A few hundred stewards aren't going to stop an idiot getting on the pitch out of tens of thousands of fans. Sadly the only way to guarantee keeping people off the pitch is with a return to fencing.

It was seen as a sign of weakness to show that a hard tackle hurt. Billy Bremner, Norman Hunter, Kenny Burns ffs players today would **** themselves. Probably burst into tears.

They were better protected the day Vinnie retired.

The only way is to introduce harsh penalties. Custodial for fans going on the pitch, and custodial for players jumping into the stands.

I remember Gwyn Thomas showing Jones who the hardman on the pitch really was.
