Ok, for the sake of debate I'm going to say this. One day cricket may be seen as the saviour of the game but to me it's just a boring sideshow. England get 400+ one day and are bowled out for 100 two days later. I fully appreciate the skills involved in the shot making but it's entirely random. The ramp etc can get you a boundary or is just as likely to get you out. To be honest they could skip playing the games and just toss a coin instead. The luckiest team on the day usually wins. Signed...an old git.
I'd be interested to know what percentage of games we win as opposed to say, the percent test wins of the great West Indies and Australian teams of years gone by.
It's all subjective. One dayers just aren't for me. Now a proper Test world championship I'd love to watch.
A lot of test matches are won by the side who win the toss. So in essence they do just toss a coin! Ps I prefer test cricket too.
Great series victory. They couldn't have been more dominated. It's just a shame Cricket has so many problems and not just with test cricket. It's about time nations started touring Pakistan again instead of playing them in the UAE. Seen a bit of the Pakistan version of their T20 on Sky channel 720. The early matches in the UAE were boring with the small crowds. Now for the knockouts they have gone to Pakistan it's a lot better with the big crowds. Security looks really good and the foreign based players like Shane Watson and our own Liam Livingstone have travelled there. Next year the whole tournament is going to be in Pakistan, which is a step in the right direction.
Yeah, I know. My point was that the great test teams would have had a high win percentage and very few defeats because they were very difficult to turn over. As a one day team England seem to lose a heck of a lot of games. I accept there's no draw element but nevertheless. In winning any one day world cup I'd say there'd be a much higher element if luck involved, especially at T20 level.
I've not looked at the figures but I think it would be unfair to compare this England team to the Australia team of the 90's/00's because we're not at that level of dominance. A fair comparison would probably be vs the current Indian test team who do happen to lose a lot of games and retain their number 1 ranking.
Well it's all subjective but I still maintain that given the high risk shots played in the one day game luck plays a much higher role in the outcome of matches.
