I had the pleasure of meeting of meeting Andy today, when he came to College to speak to Students. He spoke very well and has had a slow steady rise to his career and has worked hard .
Andy comes over as a very fair minded presenter and he has the patience of a saint when dealing with some of the more extreme wazzocks that phone in on Football Heaven. If I recall correctly, he's a diehard Halifax Town fan isn't he.? Unlike some, his voice is modulated and doesn't " grate"when he's commentating on a game. Don't know where Rob Staton ended up, but I've heard former Radio Sheffield presenters Paul Walker and Seth Bennett on Match of the Day and EFL on Quest and have quite often wondered why Andy Giddings hasn't been given that gig, as in my opinion, he's quite capable of doing it.
I've only listened to him occasionally, but is a proper football fan & not biased & that is all I ask in a presenter.
Paul Walker was the best one for me - but they've mostly changed in the last few years and I've barely listened this season. Though I did have it on recently and Adam Oxley seemed to be presenting, who I'd assumed was part time covering our matches. He seems decent (maybe because I know his voice from doing our games though).
I think he's thinking about it, a lot of broadcast journalists are now freelance and work across all platforms and companies. He's done very well to get to where he is and it's a risk to give up the stability of working for just the BBC only. It would be a loss to us in this part of Yorkshire, but who knows if the BBC want to keep doing regional sport programming?
Giddings is a Halifax fan. But I wouldn’t say he’s a die-hard. He’s more a Rugby League guy ain’t he?
Good presenter is Andy Giddings. Does well to keep certain callers on air when it must be so tempting to end the call.
That's the one who commentated on us at Wembley- his name escapes me. He had a unique way of asking questions of managers because in his question, he used to answer it too ...... Jonathan Bucken?
Yeah he was good too. He's got the perfect job as head reporter for the club he supports. Next season he will likely be paid to watch his beloved Leeds in the top flight, which must be his dream when he got into the industry.
