I reckon right now that we would be bloody disappointed with only making the play offs. Has to be top 2 now. This team deserves to go up automatically.
Aye, but we could be 3rd before we kick a ball again, Sunderland play Tuesday and Friday, both at home this week.
Besides, imagine this nightmare scenario : a. We finish third on about 90 points. b. Feeling flat as a fart after missing out c. We finished about 20 points ahead of the team who sneaked into 6th. d. They have the momentum, we feel disheartened and we end up losing the semi final to said team 20 points behind us. It happens... Got to go all out for automatic.
Can any team say getting to the play offs is an achievement, if they lose in them ?. Our aim must be top two, nothing else will do!.
Exactly uncle Mario lol, the play offs are usually a great target for teams and fans arent they. BUT we're 2nd at the moment of course, and they would be a backwards step now if we slipped into the the play off places!!.
They're great when you sneak into them but not so great when you slip into them. No thanks, not for me.
And when we went up in '16, the promotion hopes only started to happen from March onwards because we were always chasing 6th place. This time though, we're 2nd now and we've been up here all season long, so it really is raising the expectation levels and the lottery (and possible glory or hearbreak) of the play offs does not appeal this time.
We're only 29 points ahead of Gillingham in 21st place and they could pick up 45 points from their remaining 15 games. Lots to play for!
They could but not every team in between could as they will all be playing each other. I'm going to stick my neck out and say we should avoid relegation if indeed it's still mathematically possible at this point.
