Thanks Toby, at least you have the courage of your convictions. Come on guys, he's laid a glove. Speak out and speak loud if you were there

    Err..I'm not being courageous!!

    I just wasn't there!!

I'm sure the East Dene Lads would never pin the ownership up against a wall and extract false promises from them.

It's ok Toby. You are right, go with it. You said you were dubious about it. Fair comment. If somebody who was there comes forward you can re-evaluate. You've just reserved judgement, no harm in that. It is important that our chairman apparently told fans we would be excited by our January signings when we most probably aren't. If he did say that then either he failed miserably or he was pillocking us.

Do you think - and I accept that I’m going out on a bit of a limb here - they were just spinning throwaway ********?

Or maybe a deal or two that just didn’t make it over the hurdle?

If a group of pissed up lads came up and asked me, I know I wouldn't say "well, we might sell one starting XI player and replace him with lower league ones."

I'm not un-excited by the Green signing but I am worried by the fact that if Cavare, Davies, Moore or Woodrow got injured and had a lengthy lay-off we have no near-equivalent to replace them.

I know that player x or y can play there but then so could I, but just nowhere near as well.

We may well still get promoted, particularly if we can stay injury and suspension free and Williams, Brown and Thiam continue to kick-on and improve.

But I can't help thinking that if we don't we will be reflecting on the lack of investment in January when we were in a good position. It would only have taken a proportion of the Potts sale receipts to bring in a credible third striker and right back, along with maybe a loan keeper. And the wage budget is clearly there after the departure of three of our higher earners.

Well he didn’t promise me anything. I hear he made an anacdotal comment to some fans. I’m ok with our situation right now. I think we did needed to move on a few fring players. In fact isn’t that what was said a few weeks ago? We also needed to fuel the junior ranks and future squad potential. Seems like we have done that. We needed to keep the plan going with money in. Tick.

With the fitness and availability of our squad being as good as it can be, players like Styles back from loan, Green added and the young players like Brown, Williams now having developed to be holding first team places we seem to be in a good position with no emergency signings needed. Also if we are to get promoted we surely will need to build a stronger championship capable squad pre season and not overdo things in Jan.

All of course a balancing act. Personally I would like to have seen Fryers make way for right back cover and another striker added to the first team squad right now. That would have been great and 10/10 for me. Where we have finished the window overall as a squad not just a signings view is ok. Could have been much worse if the 2-3 of our rumoured targeted players had left.
