Given the inclement weather, Oxfords gamesmanship and the abject performance of the referee, we have to be satisfied that we didn't lose last nights game don't we.? Acting on a theory by Joe Royle when he managed Oldham "Normally, if you win your home games and get a point away from home, at best you'll end up automatically promoted or at worst in the shake up for the play offs." fingers crossed Saturday and last night were temporary "blips" and we can win with our squad still intact, with style against Scunny on Saturday. https://www.skysports.com/watch/vid...xford-united/11621951/oxford-utd-2-2-barnsley
I can't imagine that we'll concede two worse goals for the rest of the season. Both easily preventable. Looks like it was one of those nights! Fingers crossed it's out of the system.
Agree a right howler Kettlewell. When I played, the rule always instilled into me was " if in doubt, kick it out". Ideally, Davies ought to have taken the lead and raced forward and booted it as far as he could, because in Lindsay's defence he couldn't see what was behind him and he didn't look round. As it was, they both opted for the " after you Claude" option and unfortunately we conceded. Let's hope it's a lesson well learned.?
What was Lindsey playing at more like!!!! He was in control of that situation, he needs to be more decisive, either get a head back to the keeper or boot it into touch, stop arsing about.
50/50 for me, both at blame, both should have cleared it. But we've got the best defensive record in the league so I'm not going to start blaming them for a mistake now. These things happen unfortunately especially at this level of football and we'll move on from it.
Agree JT but we didn't perform as well as we know we can. We came back after conceding first in both games, which shows that at least, we are resilient. There's going to be a lot more twists and turns with us and our closest rivals before the end of the season. Saturday should be interesting re- Donny away at Portsmouth and Luton away at Shrewsbury.!
Spot on fella, he dropped his pace concentrated on the man and not the ball, absolutely shocking once more from Lindsay. Surely a rest is in order it may do him the world of good.
Watched the shirt highlights and there were two very poor goals to conceded. Davies is our captain. Lindsay has started the next highest number of games, so the two most experienced players in Barnsley terms. Communication and decision making were poor by both. It highlights to me we don't have any leaders in this team. They are both young still and have plenty of time to develop and improve, but you have to take ownership of a situation when you have the chance to do so. Lindsay didn't, but then Davies didn't either. All I expect is that they learn from the mistake, and if found in that situation again, they know how to deal with it and do so.
If either Davies, or Lindsay had given a shout, either of them would have cleared the danger. The fault was in a lack of communication, so they both left it to each other and neither shouted what they were intending to do. Lindsay could have blocked Mackie better than he did, although it is hard to know when the player is behind you and Lindsay was trying to look behind him. Davies could see the lot and should have shouted Lindsay either to clear it, or that he (Davies) was coming to boot it into row Z. it looks as though neither of these things happened. Both at fault.
Who’s the captain ? If Davis hadn’t told him to boot it into row z he should have a look st himself and learn imo Having said all that Lindsay is exoerienced enough imo to know what to do and hopefully learns from it and we move on .
Having reviewed the film for a few times,I believe that I'm wrong and Liam Lindsay had the opportunity to deal with it and should have done so.I stand corrected. Sorry.
Am I the only one who thinks Davies was fouled for the 2nd Oxford goal. He has that ball in his hands and was in control of the ball and Mackie ran into him knocking the ball out of his hands. That was a clear foul in my book.
I thought so at the time and rewound it several times to check. In slow motion it looks even worse. There was no appeal from Davies though was there? Maybe he was too embarrassed about it. The galling thing though was had that been at the other end Eastwood and his defenders would have been giving the ref some serious grief for allowing the goal. As usual we are just too soft
Davies wasn't in control of the ball. Dropped it and fell to the floor before being touched. No foul.
Or maybe the keeper, who had a better view of what's happening in front of him takes control and grabs hold of the ball and keeps it. He is the CAPTAIN after all...
