My understanding of Sunderland AFC take over pre season, was that Elliot Short left the club debt free. The new owners have paid over £14million to take it over. They managed to offload some but not all high earners at the club. This year is year zero for them in business terms and they are trying not to make a operating loss, the current owners are not particularly wealthy but if they run the club well, they should be self sustaining this season. I'm not sure they can afford K Moore at the moment.
I heard yeasterday they were making a 5th bid for will grigg. Doubt they could afford moore apparently we turned down big bid in the summer just gone, doubt we would be stupid enough to sell our top goalscorer to a promotion rival.
They're effectively making nothing from this deal. The fee is £1.5m with the rest from certain clauses. The thing is, they still owe Bordeaux nearly £1.5m for wahbi khazri who was signed by big Sam. Imagine if this was BFC flogging Kieffer for nothing.
This thread on the sunderland forum is epic. 370 pages of comments and still going... https://www.readytogo.net/smb/threads/maja.1457037/page-354
I'd rather be us than them at the moment that's for sure. Plus we're not reliant on just one goal scorer.
They won't get much of that money for him.. They still owe Bordeaux alot of money for kazhri.. that's why he's ended up at Bordeaux
You aren’t far off the mark at all. Stuart Donald an oxford supporter tried to invest in oxford but was turned firm so instead put over 10 million into Eastleigh. His consortium “bought” Sunderland with the majority of the debt gone. It’s not a bad deal if they get promoted and achieve crowds of 40k again with a smallish wage bill. It’s obvious he is in it for profit similar to the way Milan mandarin used to buy clubs who were run down, improve them and sell up.
