Green seems a good prospect - but is he ready ??? Other two signed today seem to be heading for the Under 23s. Have we replaced Potts and Moncur ? Or is it still early doors?
It's all guesswork of course but, potentially, Simoes and Green make the squad stronger than it was when it included Potts and Moncur. Add to that the money that we will no doubt still have to spend from both the sales to strengthen even further I'd have to say that my initial impression is that we've done well so far.
Brown has replaced Potts. Moncur was 5th choice midfield player. We have signed two young pact wingers for the first team squad
The lad might be a great future talent but I can’t see him involved much at first team level this season. It’s a big jump from a relegation battle in the Conference North to a promotion push in L1.
Did you not listen to what GG said he said the lad would go straight into the 1st team. https://www.barnsleyfc.co.uk/news/2019/january/elliot-signs/
I did but I can’t see it. He’s just turned 19 and has played 23 games in the 6th tier. Might get a few minutes off the bench maybe. Unless Thiam is off somewhere.....let’s hope not.
I must say, I'd not heard of either of our two new wingers before they were announced (just as I like it!). However, young Jordan made the bench on Saturday and, according to the club, Elliot is to be part of the first team squad. My guess is both lads will probably be used as impact substitutes initially, as the players currently holding down a place in the starting XI are doing so well and definitely deserve to hold on to their place in the side.
I think its early doors in the window yet to make a judgement. At the moment I'd say we've had a 3/10 rating so far. How anyone can suggest we have a stronger squad now after losing a player for £2m and an experienced League 1 player and replaced them with a lad who's played half a season in League 2 and a lad who's only just become a regular in a Conference North Team who are struggling, is well crackers. Maybe we can do without Moncur and Potts so like for like replacements aren't believed to be needed, thats up for debate and performances haven't been hampered so far. If I was Stendel though I'd be pushing for a couple of players who are going to immediately push for a starting spot, or at least make our bench stronger. IMHO of course.
Bringing in young players is great. But we are 5th in the league and with a bit more talent added to the squad it might just be enough to see us over the line. I don’t think these two are going to do that. Fingers crossed I’m wrong.
Im sure all GG was saying is he was signed for the first team squad not the development squad - yesterdays signing was shown shaking Devaneys hand so is clearly a development squad player - this guy is going to be part of the first team squad. whether he plays or even makes the bench is up to the head coach - Id guess he will be behind Green but if he impresses in training who knows
That's all I said he will be in the 1st team squad not the 23s. Fc united fans seem to rate him highly. But I would now expect hedges or isgrove to leave.
