Now the dust has settled my honest thoughts are, Players come and go, that’s football. Bfc are essentially a stepping stone for players and the way we have nurtured players to develop over recent years makes us a) attractive for players to come here and shine and b) a club which will more often than not have a host of scouts attending when we are playing good football, it’s nice knowing that we are regarded as a club that can bring a player on. My only bug bear and I don’t know the facts so could be wrong but why was it so essential we sold BP 3 days into the transfer window??? If he was sought after why not hold our nerve and let a bidding war start.......??? Anyhow a wish BP all the best and look forward to whoever we bring in, if it’s like the Woodrow/Bradshaw deal then I’ll back the club all the way.
Behave thi sen... tha talking a little bit too much sense man. But like tha said we don’t know the ins and outs of the deal. Maybe the board saw it was Preston’s record bid so jumped at it or it was a ‘take it or leave it’ bid and agen **** their sens n took it. Who knows.
We as fans speculate way too much and more often than not think we know what’s right when half of time we haven’t a clue!! Am disappointed but we’ll move on, if we lose 3 more next week I’ll be on phone to samaritains
I think we have to judge the net effect at the end of the window. I always thought Potts was a square peg and we never really knew what to do with him. He chipped in with a few goals and a few assists, but many of our assists these days are a simple pass and a shot from 25 yards, many of the assists aren't really great creative pieces of skill or effort to open a situation, and I think much of that is because we don't have many players with the skill nor the quick thinking to do that. He was decent, but like a few others, he was one of a poor squad that tanked last season, and as such, despite seeing many of this squads likeability, I'm quite content with regular turnover til we get to a place where Stendel feels he has the players suited to play his style of football. Many don't like it, but we're low down in the football pyramid, and as we've chosen to develop players, we're always going to have more interest than clubs who prefer loans or players past their prime dropping down the leagues. I'd like a little more balance than kids after kids, but that's where we are. If Potts allows us to balance the squad better, I've no issue at all in selling him for a decent fee with sell on. If we don't bring in some quality to push for promotion, then it doesn't make much sense at all.
I thought we wouldn’t sell anyone in this window or buy anyone , with the comments from Stendel that he seemed happy with the squad and already had Woodrow and Bahre coming in on permanent contracts I assumed that was that . However when you get a ridiculous offer for an average player it’s difficult to turndown , good luck to Pottsy but I don’t think we’ll be moaning in June that we missed him
£1.5m is a fair enough deal having signed him for approx £750k. That said 6 goals and 5 assists in 22 games is a great return and would be my concern in terms of finding a replacement who can contribute in the same way. People can have the view "he's average" but he's an average player who's been involved in nearly 30% of all our league goals. Will be interesting to see who the club bring in or promote from within.
Potts has been directly involved in 25% of our 40 goals this season - 1) he's an obvious target 2) we should be commanding top $$ for him 3) when a bid comes in we should be looking for his replacement BEFORE selling. Someone needs to step up or we need to find Brad Potts Mk 2 before the end of Jan.
It's odd how some people's low opinion of Brad Potts doesn't coincide with his actual contribution to the team?
He didn't have a great start when we first signed him, he was playing well by the end of last season, but that was probably cloaked by the Moralis clown being in charge and our overall capitulation into League One.
many fans (on here at least) consistently hammered brad potts, until pretty recently. has a few good games, scores a couple, moves on for >£1.5m and people lose their $hit. it's football. players come, players go, and we've more than doubled our money. it's hardly a surprise if he wanted a move, with the amount of stick he's had since joining us.
I think she means he's cup tied for Preston, so he might as well have played for us tomorrow then moved!
Disappointed he's gone, but if it's anywhere near £2 million we've done well. As much as I liked him, I don't think he, or any of the current squad are anywhere near as integral as the likes of Hourihane, Winnall, Roberts, etc were. Other than Woodrow and Pinnock, Moore, Mowatt and Dougall at a push, I don't think any of the team are anywhere near irreplacable. That said, I'm hoping we don't have another firesale and end up with a new squad come 1st February 2019.
