Iceland ad banned. Ridiculous decision

This ad is considered too political for TV. It is fine however to air recruitment ads for soldiers to go and kill people when children are watching.

 

I was on about this earlier. I think it's a wonderful, thought provoking advert and I agree that banning it is a ridiculous thing to do.

 

Although I'm not sure that there is any reason to compare it with recruitment campaigns for the military.

 

That’s a shame, a serious message being communicated in such a nice and inoffensive way.

 

The reason it was not allowed was that it is considered too political. Its very political to try to recruit soldiers but that's fine apparently. Personally I think both should be allowed

 

I agree, it is not political and it shouldn't have been banned. I just don't think you're right about recruitment of the military as they aren't political, they just serve under whoever the government of the time is.

 

Well, if nothing else, this post proves that advertising works.

Best thing that could've happened. It'll go viral, it'll be watched tens of millions of times on YouTube, where this archaic organisation has no jurisdiction. People will talk about it.

 

I don't really see how it's political to be honest. We all know rainforests are being destroyed. I usually dont like these poem ads but this one was very clever.

Correct. I heard about it yesterday when it was covered by both Nick Ferrari and James O'Brien on LBC.

 

It’s been deemed political because it’s a video produced and paid for by Greenpeace which has been adapted into an advert for Iceland (with Greenpeace’s agreement I might add).

As greenpeace are classed as political activists this breaches advertising rules. It’s just a technicality.

Dare I say it but I think Iceland knew it would get banned. They’re marketing department aren’t stupid! However, tv advertising is not as big as it used to be so online exposure is what they want. They knew that banning of the advert would make it go viral giving this message way more exposure than if it was just on tv.

I think they have removed Palm Oil from all of their own products. It still exists on their shelves from branded products. I think thats their point.

We are destroying our world one step at a time. I applaud any steps no matter how small or incomplete to help protect it.

We are on track to deliver the commitment we made in April 2018 to eliminate palm oil as an ingredient from all Iceland own label food by the end of the year. Because of the widespread use of palm oil in food production, certain derivatives and processing aids that contain minute amounts of palm oil – although not on the ingredient list – are still in use. We continue to challenge the suppliers using these.

The decision to remove palm oil was made in order to demonstrate to the food industry that it is possible to reduce the demand for palm oil while seeking solutions that do not destroy the world’s rainforest. Alternative ingredients vary depending on individual product requirements, meaning that there are a mix of oils and fats involved. These include sunflower oil, rapeseed oil and butter.

 

Nail on head. The damage and destruction caused by the human race is nothing short of an absolute disgrace.

 

It’s not a ridiculous decision.

It’s ridiculous that the advertising rules are what they are but it would be ridiculous to not apply them; they ought to change them maybe, but the makers of this ‘ad’ will have known it would never be allowed on tv.

Greenpeace and Iceland will have known it would be banned, no doubts at all. It’s no mistake it has been ‘leaked’ to social media.

They’ll get twice as much attention as pretty much any other advert, maybe not Coca Cola or John Lewis Christmas ones, but nearly every other. That will equate to ten, fifty, a hundred times more attention than any other Iceland advert. Including ones with folk like peter Andre promoting prawn rings.

It’s canny and manipulative to be honest, but chuffing good luck to them. It highlights the ridiculousness of the human race and if it changes even a tiny thing then well done.

 

We obviously can't have companies work towards decreasing their environmental impact. That'd be ridiculous!
