Yesterday, from where I was sat, I heard some moron yell, “Brown, y’useless fuckin’ black c##t!” This made me feel sick to the stomach. Why does this vile crass attitude still exist in our stands? I feel ashamed, I should’ve said something, but we all know how that would’ve ended, and I was sat by myself. Why do we allow this to continue?
Possibly because people don't challenge it? I understand why you may not have wanted to approach them on their own, although I personally would have, but that is the reason why it still exists. If everyone had instantly shut them up then they wouldn't do it again. Even if you didn't want to speak to them yourself, not making a steward aware also allows them to continue. I realise this is going across blaming and whilst I'm sorry for that, I do think it is a valid answer to your question.
Agreed. I can understand why some are scared to say anything but the only way to stop them is to let them know that it isn't acceptable. If they get away with it they think it's condoned
Unfortunately here at barnsley we still have a few backwards rasict nuckledraggers who still follow us. The Oxford game a bloke a few seats down from me said a racist comment aimed towards cavare he was told by another supporter about his behaviour and was quiet as a mouse after. Thankfully the bloke wasn't a season ticket holder and has not returned since. Shame these people still attend football games as I'd rather not breath the same air as them.
That’s a response that implies it’s ok to say disgusting things like that? Or am I confused by its tone? If this guy heard it then many others did, did anybody report it? They should have and they absolutely should post about it on here too.
I took his comment to mean it was slightly unnecessary to make the slur the title for all to read rather than something along lines of "racist abuse heard yesterday". May be wrong...
It's hard to believe that in 2018 we still have such a vile minority on the terraces who think nothing of shouting racist abuse like this so publicly.
It is. It's also disgusting that we have such a large section of support who will pretend they haven't heard it and turn a blind eye to it
And that is the worrying thing. We all know that if you did stand up to it there would be a large amount of people backing the racist
I’m old fashioned in many ways. I’m not condoning it. It can be absolutely sickening. However - if he was white with ginger hair and someone had shouted ‘yer ginger *******’ would you take the same offence ? Or has influence from the media told you which people can and cannot be criticised because of how they look? It’s a football game - anything that can undermine or unnerve players and officials will be shouted. Believe me - there’s not many that’s had as much abuse as I have because of the way I look.
Is it surprising when the media constantly insults immigrants, the disabled and those on benefits. Vilifying a section of society makes it ok to those of feeble mind to insult and belittle other sections of society that are different to them. Whether that is race, religion or hair colour.
Bit disappointing that the OP has only six previous posts in over two years but could find the time to post this. That's not me condoning anything by the way.
