I know we took the foot off the gas last 30 mins today but a cracking achievement for the reds going first 6 unbeaten. I cant remember last time we did it and ive been watching the super reds for ages. Closest i can remember is the premier promotion season when we won first 5 but think we lost to QPR at home in the sixth. Just think for a club like ours with new management and seemingly new regime its a great start and im sure we would have snapped a hand off for it, and I reckon we will only get better. Many reasons to be cheerful. COYR
We went over 20 unbeaten at the start of the Hunter promotion season 1980/81 if my memory is working Don’t remember 6 unbeaten at start since
Didn't we lose the opening game to Portsmouth? We did got 19 unbeaten or something during the season though if I remember right then went to Huddersfield who had gone the same number and they beat us 1-0. The start we've made is maybe the strongest I've seen in terms of the fact that most of the games we've been far superior to the opposition.
I'm struggling to remember a 6 unbeaten. We won our first 5 under Clarke & then lost at home to Torquay in front of the cameras. We did have a 19 match unbeaten run under Hunter, but it was mid season, after we'd lost 4/5 matches.
Your memory is failing I'm afraid. We lost a few games in the opening couple of months. The unbeaten run started in October and carried on through to February.
Clarkey was still the manager at the start of the season. In the opening game when we lost to Portsmouth he subbed Aylott who took off his shirt and threw it into the dugout. Aylott was dropped and not brought back into the side until Hunter took over when Alan went to Leeds. And that's when the undefeated run began. The run was even more impressive when you take cup games into account because although we eventually lost to West Ham in the league cup and Middlesbrough in the FA cup we beat Torquay and Mansfield and Chester and Rotherham and Cardiff and Enfield and Scunny...
Ah maybe I remembered 20 games unbeaten from when Hunter took over. You are right, of course we started that season with Clarke in charge. I don’t know what planet I was on last night and I hadn’t even touched a drink.
Best start since WW2 was in 1946/7 when we went 7 games undefeated at the start of rhe season, but finished the season in 10th position.
If your gentleman sausage makes up the extra digit, then on that proviso, I can manage 20.2 (20.1 in winter) ☹️
The last time we were unbeaten in the first six league games was 2003/04. 4 wins 2 draws like this season. We lost the 7th game at Port Vale though.
