Charged doesn't mean he's guilty yet. That's up to the judge to be determined.

For the continuity of the club the sacking made sense though. It would've cast a shadow of doubt over anything the club would do while he would've still been around.

Agree it doesn’t mean he was guilty. He hasn’t taken up an unfair dismissal claim with the club as far as I know & would have been difficult to continue in his role with the speculation over him.

Do we know what the allegation of the bribe was in conjunction with? i.e. Who did we sign because he has allegedly got paid?

My boss has just called me to tell me about this, after hearing the story on the news as he was driving. Regardless of anything, it's a shame that we're being associated with such a negative story after the recent flurry of positive media coverage we've received. It's not pleasant to hear "Barnsley Football Club" and "bribery" mentioned in the same sentence as those skim-reading, or not paying full attention to the facts, will think that it's the club in the wrong.

"I can just recommend players to you that I've gone and seen, and you will have to do your spicy dealing, whatever you do," Wright is filmed saying.

So they've paid him to tell them which players he thinks are any good? What's even remotely illegal about that?

No idea mate, must be enough evidence to charge though so police/ CPS believe a crime has been committed. Will be interesting to see what comes out.

Allardyce didn't do anything wrong. He offered advice on getting around a rule. Morally you can make an argument, but he only got sacked because he embarrassed the FA. Bribery is criminal.

Yeah that’s what I was sarcastically alluding to that the media who put this out were saying there’s more to come and some big revelations and only Tommy Wright was charged and Allerdyce didn’t actually do anything ( legally ) wrong . So what happened to the big story we were promised ?

It doesn't necessarily mean players he thinks are good though. He says he can recommend players he's gone and seen which could mean players he's had dodgy meetings with and tried to talk into forcing a nice away from Barnsley.

Could our bent lovely person if an assistant be the person who turned winnall and hourihanes head? It's plausible that his selfish corrupt actions derailed our season

I took 'gone and seen' as scouted. Gone to the ground and seen play. Didn't register with me he meant Barnsley players who he's spoken to. Personally I would have used different language if that's what I'd meant.

"I can just recommend players to you that I've talked to, and you will have to do your spicy dealing, whatever you do," Wright is filmed saying.

You could be right but if he was recommending players that weren't ours then that means that someone else at the club was in on it too doesn't it? It was about making money on our transfer dealings so if it wasn't players exiting Barnsley it must have been players coming to the club and that means the people doing spicey dealings logically worked for us.

I've no idea. I knew he'd been sacked, obviously, but I don't really know why (other than it was a sting operation by a newspaper and was the 'tip of the iceberg', which it doesn't look like it turned out to be). I read about bungs and bribes but never really knew what those were for. All I'm going on is that article linked to earlier in this thread

Didn't he come out and say something about Alfie mawson being one to watch in the clips....

So theoretically it comes across as he was tapping our own sales up for future.

It’s got nothing to do with our club and therefor I fail to see how it tarnished our name at all. The allegations came out, we got shut, perhaps to the detriment of our own season. I’d say that puts us in a very decent light as we dealt with a problem. A lot of clubs wouldn’t if it meant weakening their season.

Reading that story he is being done for scouting, there is other evidence against him. The question is who was he scouting for and were any of our players named by him? The Police must have a lot more on him than that to charge him.
