Bang Average League 1 footballer, can run around a lot, in the last year of their contract sold for £1.5m..... If we signed a striker for £1.5m who’s career record was 66 goals in 247 games (with only 15 career assists) then this board would be moaning all over. It’s a bizzare thing. Would rather focus on who we sign now than a player who didn’t want to be here.
Where have you got £1.5m from? Regardless. That is the market. IMO given the circumstances and lack of opportunity to get a replacement that’s not enough either way.
If we replace a 1 in 4 tap in merchant for someone better, or two better players, on longer contracts, then I’ll say it’s good business. Personally think £1.5m (or if you would prefer to go £1m plus add ons) is a lot of money for a very ordinary striker. His whole time at the club I’ve seen nothing but mediocre performances with lots of effort. I’ve seen far better players go for far less money. Tom Bradshaw going to Millwall barely registers as a blip on the scale of poor sales we’ve made. It’s all opinion though. Would have been happy for him to stay, but just as happy we’ve made decent money from him.
Here's a first - I'm in complete agreement with you. I'd still like to know more about this great time you had when Sam Winnall hit me in the face. He was top quality striker btw - probably worth 15 times what we received for him.
Not fussed about him going though he does fit into the team structure well. The timing is crap though there’s no way round that. Leaves us needing 2 strikers and a winger.
Hope he does well at Millwall. Remember add ons add to our kitty. Time for a new player to show his worth whoever they bring in.
It said that the add on was if millwall got promoted ,well that ain’t gonna happen so it,s just 1 million then.
We could have tried to replace him with Kaydon Jackson before Ipswich nipped in with a £1.5 million bid
How would you rate Mark Hughes? There are different types of striker and Bradshaw was not merely a tap in merchant. He complimented the whole team with his off the ball running and paved the way for midfielders to run into the gap. Our new style of play is ideal for this type of player so we need to replace him with someone very similar in my opinion. Given we can only get a loanee in the next week it may well be too late. It's taken Millwall over a month to get their man so I fear we may be too late. I hope I'm wrong and we get someone in but if the shirt debacle is anything to go by I wouldn't hold my breath. I really hope we haven't shot ourselves in the foot with this.
The next week will reveal all and I hope my worries are unfounded but I do fear that you may be right. To me, given where we are, whats at stake and what we are hoping to achieve, its a massive gamble on the outcome of the whole season before its barely got going and its a gamble we may lose.
And if anyone had paid that it would be even more fecked. I would want £5m for Moore at least. Doesn’t mean he’s worth it.
