I'd be looking to bring in 2 strikers to bolster if Bradders signs for Millwall. Christian Doidge - Scored plenty of goals last season for a poor side in league 2 'Forest Green Rovers'. Team finished in 21st place only 1 point above relegated team and he still hit 20 goals. Surely worth a punt, fits into the age structure as well. Loan to Perm.. Then look at someone available in the championship, either season long loan or again loan to perm.
Doidge is a good shout. Good age with a good record. Not sure what type of striker he is though but good record. My choices would be Chaplin (loan to buy deal) he is very young and offers us a totally new option as he has bags of pace and could play up front in a 2 with Moore or as a wide forward in a front 3 with Thiam Moore and Chaplin. I also would potentially look to the Championship for some loans. Keinan Davis for example is a good young prospect. Very powerful striker that caused us all sorts of problems in a recent game against us. He is only 20 but way down in the pecking order with Villa. Or other players from Championship sides. Maybe Ekuban or Grot from Leeds too? Both young powerful strikers that could work for us on a loan? May even be able to get a permanent deal out of one of those Leeds lads.
Haha, 36 yr old now and can't see him being able to play the pressing game effectively unless he's sat on someone.
I am curious why you think Chaplin would be a good signing, when his club Portsmouth, who you would think will be one of our main rivals this season , hardly ever play him & would consider letting him go to a rival . If he is that good, you would think that Pompey would want to play him themselves wouldn"t you ?
I think he would add a new option to our attack as he has good pace and is a direct runner from the bits I have seen of him. Also has lots of potential. Do I think he would score more than Bradders would, probably not but he has potential to be much better going forward for us and could suit the system really well and he is versatile and he can fill in out wide. I get your point about not starting at Pompey, but from what I know that is mainly down to the managers preferance in formation. Their gaffer likes to play one up top as far as I know and they always use Pitman as he is much more suited to that role and also is a very proven and experinced striker. It would be a risk to opt for him for sure, but from what I have seen of him I think he would be a success and a change of club could do him the world of good.
You make some good points & from your description the lad sounds promising , its just me , I cannot get my head around why a club would sell a promising player to a rival , I would hope if the position was reversed , we would resist .
If someone offered GG half a million for his own grandmother he'd take it and keep an interest in her future
Money talks that's the issue. They don't see him in their plans for what ever reasons and he will want to play to improve etc. If we offer a good enough fee we would get him im sure
I touted him in the past, but he is too like Moore for this to form a good duo. We need another 'fox-in-the-box' type striker to go alongside Moore. Doidge has proved himself a very good and consistent scorer, the more impressive that this has been in a poorish team.
