I'm not using this to argue that he's a good player or a bad player, it's just a fact that he hasn't. His best return is 17, which he's done twice, in consecutive season for Walsall, 2014-15 and 2015-16, both in League 1. Bradshaw did not outscore Sam Winnall in the year we won promotion, under any criteria. Winnall scored 21 league goals compared to Bradshaw's 17. Winnall, scored 24 in total, 21 in the league, 2 in the play-offs and 1 in the league cup. Bradshaw scored 20 in total, 17 in the league and 3 in the league cup. The above is not an argument that WInnall is a better player. It gets repeated so often that Bradshaw scored 20+ league goals at this level last time he played here (it's often cited he's guaranteed that many) and that he scored more than Winnall. If we're debating his abilities and his past record, I reckon it should be accurate.
True, and let’s face it, he doesn’t look like a 20+ player by any criteria irrespective of the league he’s playing in.
I’m disappointed he’s going because of potential disruption it may cause. Why take the risk? Would be even more disappointing if we have sold without a replacement lined up. That said if it’s 1.25m I think that’s good business. I’ve been the first to criticise us not getting value for our players but given his contractual situation I think that’s a decent ish price.
Winnall was a much better player than Bradshaw. It's not only the goals it was all the assists he had too. One point I would like to make regarding the number of goals scored is that there are few players who score 20 a season in any league. That's why goalscorers are so expensive. If you had the choice of signing say a 15 goal man or a 10 goal man it's a no brainer who you would chose. Just one more point when Bradshaw does score he doesn't look as if he will get another. It may be my poor memory but he gets 1 goal in any a game.
Scored 2 vs Villa away when we won 3-1 and 2 Vs Millwall away again when we won 3-1 not sure if he did it any other times though. I like Bradders a lot but he just hasn't found regular scoring form for us for a number of reasons. If he does leave which is looking likely then I would love some pacey skilful attacker to come in to replace him as that would add more to our attack IMO
What relevance has any of this got? The point is Bradshaw is (currently) a player at Barnsley FC that fits well into the system we have spent a summer preparing for and is paying off. To lose him and get in a replacement is a huge risk, one that in my opinion is not worth the £1m that we will inevitably not spend anyway. People cite 'personal reasons' as adequate excuse for him to leave. Fine. But his 'personal reasons' have not changed since the start of the season, so is now really the time to push for it, when we can't get a suitable replacement? People are hugely underestimating this league because we've had a few strong performances. At the end of the day we are 3rd (and joint 5th) with an absolutely dream start- take a key part of the puzzle out and where do we sit? Is bottom end of the play offs our aim?
All clubs will operate a spreadsheet, of some sort, when identifying targets. Tom is without doubt a talented player, and a hell of a grafter, and must have found his lone striker role, last season, sole destroying. Was crying out for a 'big lad' to play alongside, which we got, but it just doesn't seem to have clicked. We had Adam Armstrong on loan, another undoubted talent, but his own strengths didn't shine in our style of play, in fact we probably set him back a year in his development. So, maybe Millwall see something in Bradshaw that will work with their style of play, after all, they're the team that has been constantly linked, so they must see his qualities as specific to their needs. If he goes, we must replace though. But with someone Stendell sees as a good fit to the style of play he's, so far, doing a good job of implementing. Young Victor's two goals have both been 'right place at right time' goals, which is a value given how many balls we send hard and low into the box to nobody. Winnall was our best striker in a generation, but again, fitted the system as Hourihane presented him so many gift wrapped opportunities. Got to trust the manager and the board. And whilst this bloody 'spreadsheet' gets mentioned over and over, it's probably highlighted that Bradshaw can go, regardless of price, as his style doesn't suit our system.
I'm not sure why people are comparing Bradshaw to winnall to make it seem okay winnalls gone and isn't coming back Bradshaws gone by today. Winnall was a better goalscorer Bradshaw works his ****** off without the ball and fits stendals style of play perfect. Fact of the matter is we have sold now allowing us only to replace with loans and it's been confirmed we have no one immanent lined up so leaves us with 2 strikers in the squad. If cryne was still here and this happened folk would be out with their pitch forks take your rose tinted specs off.
Don’t really get why Bradshaw & Winnall are been compared. I think everyone knows Winnall was better for us than Bradshaw. If I was signing one of the two tomorrow however it’d be Bradshaw, I can’t see Winnall been the same player after his serious injury. Not too sure how anyone can say Bradshaw & Moore aren’t working. The teams doing excellent with them as a front two bringing others into play. It’s all about how the team performs rather than which individuals put the ball in the net & from what I’ve seen Bradshaw’s pressing & partnership with Moore fits our team perfectly. None of us know today whether it’s a good decision to sell or not we’ll have to wait & see who the replacement is but we need someone who fits the system as well as Bradshaw does. It’s easy to throw lazy comments out there like ‘replaceable’ but how long until the new lad shows his potential, most of the replacements from our overhaul of the last squad have took over a season to start performing consistently. Lindsay was the only one who played consistently well last season & then Moore played pretty well from first joining too but how many of the rest have? Pinnock was in & out, it took Hedges 7 months, it took Bradshaw a season, Potts was inconsistent last season, it’s took Mowatt 18 months, Jackson only started performing well in his second season, Cavare in his second season, jury still out on Pinillos & Fryers, Thiam in his second season, took Davies a while to get in the team. It’s not easy to sign someone ready-made & we need a ready-made replacement for a promotion push. Out of all our whole squad there’s only Lindsay, Moore & Dougall who’ve fitted straight into the team & done well.
That's why even those of us who don't rate Bradsahw still say the timing is awful for a lot of the reason you state. If I were given the choice you suggested though I'd take Winnall injury or not. You speculate that Winnall won't be the same after his injury I would wager that despite that Bradshaw will still not be as good a striker as Winnall. So much as I can tell the way he "fits in" to our system is thay he runs all day long. So I'm optimistic we can replace that side of his game fairly quickly. As for goal scoring i am also hopeful whoever we can get in will fill the 1 in 4 void Tom leaves up top.
Ah maybe that's why they have gone in for him. Like when Blackpool signed Sheron, he always scored against them.
I just think it’s a flawed figure to say 1 in 4. It’s all relative. In his first season he was generally a sub coming off the bench for 20 mins at a time & they all count towards his appearances & in his second season he was in a side where he had to play up front on his own as Ugbo wasn’t up to it, Thiam wasn’t fit enough & the McBurnie deal didn’t go through. It’d be interesting to see how he’d get on as a regular starter in a front 2 for either us or Millwall if either aren’t in a relegation scrap
Nothing to worry about....no club in England would sell one of their senior strikers...and rely on 2 acadamy lads to come in...it's obvious we have at least 2 replacements lined up...it's not like we have previous!!!
Where is the relevance in comparing Winnall and Bradshaw? I’m not sure anyone thinks Bradshaw is the better of those two. Winnall isn’t here. The point about Bradshaw never getting 20 league goals is interesting. Conor Chaplin, the only name we’ve so far been linked with, has a highest league figure of eight in a season, in league two. At this level, 5. I happen to think if the number nine (whoever he is) bags 17 league goals this season, alongside the goals Moore will get, thiam and Potts will get, and the contributions of everyone else, we will be close to the top two. If he gets 8 (or even only 5), maybe not. Obviously the role is much more than goalscoring, and it’s the other side that I think we’ll miss most from Bradshaw. He attracts defenders and never leaves them alone, Moore for example may get doubled up on without Bradshaw and so win less in the air. Anyway like I said in my own thread, it looks like it’s done, so good luck to him. Don’t think we need to carry on pretending he’s awful and we’re glad he’s off though, as he’s been a central part of a side which has started very well.
There is no relevance in comparing Bradshaw to winnall. But numerous times I read others repeat that Bradshaw outscored winnall in our promotion season. I've read it three times in the last couple of days The only purpose of this post was to give the correct information with regard to how many Bradshaw scored and how many he scored compared to winnall. Two oft repeated incorrect statements
