Stendel - I like the look of him, communicates really well with the players, a big smile and puts his arm around the players when they come off the field. Not sure about his long white socks though. Directors - great to see Chien Lee with presumably his family there as well. Also great to see James Cryne and his mother there. Supporters - fantastic support by Barnsley fans. And it was also great to see good support from the Oxfud fans. Match - as I said all last season, we had decent Championship level players - and it showed against Oxfud who are probably a good 1st Division side - but the gulf in talent was there from the start. Remember some (most?) of our players are from leagues lower than the Championship but they did cost between £500k to £1 million. So I predicted 4-0 on here last week - but to be honest the final score flattered Oxfud - it could easily have been 12-1. Team - we looked shaky in defence at times. There were a few missed tackles. We have to tighten up in defence. Mamadou showed how to shoot from distance - several times we were in good striking distance but other players didn’t have the confidence to shoot. That needs to improve. Very much in the Hecky style of going forward - very quickly the players swarm forward We need to be better at crosses - that’s either the accuracy of the cross or the anticipation. Players - everyone of the players played well. I thought we missed Hammil tho - especially his accuracy of crossing the ball. Dougall is a great find. Potts drove forward like Potts does. Mowatt is a born again player. We cannot afford to sell Moore - Incredible performance. Even though Bradshaw didn’t score - at the end of the season he will be in the top 3 goal scorers in the league. Great day - fab around town before and after the match.
I didn't go yesterday but that sounds like a decent, balanced report. Fantastic result to start the season with. Not gonna get carried away as we could just as easily get battered and brought down to earth by Bradford, but how nice is it to savour an opening day win and be able to praise so many of our players.
Was in it earlier in the year. I stayed in a cottage just outside Moffat when i went on a DJ trip up to Galloway. Cracking scenery round there. Crap beer in Scotland though...
That's the one thing I thought yesterday. A minor complaint, but the goals did not come from crosses, as they were not accurate.
Would that be Stephen Moffatt, who writes for Doctor Who ?. lol And who is that bird with the melons in the picture, Im just wondering ?.
