But on that argument you could say George Best wasn’t a great or John Charles and to imo Gareth Bale I’m sure there’s others who for some reason never got on the world stage but were world class players

That's fine and I get it. It's just frustrating for people who do see the bigger picture for others to make a judgment off the back of 4 games.

    Exactly
There’s loads . The great Puskas to an extent and if Zidane had played for the country of his parents we may never have seen much of him tbh

He put the cross of the match in for their 3rd. He would rightly get in most teams in the world. For me Ronaldo is the better player because he is the complete player but Messi isn’t far behind him.

Funny, I'll always remember Jimmy Greaves as an absolute goal-scoring legend but I'm hard pressed to ever remember Roger Hunt except for when the Russian linesman goal comes on the telly and I ask myself why the **** he didn't knock it in and make sure.

Judging by this game so far it looks like Ronaldo has been found out. Zero impact this first half.

He has already, if you ran a poll asking every football fan for the greatest player of all time he’d win comfortably

Was carried by the team at both Man u and Madrid. Just as Messi was lucky to win player of the tournament at the last world cup Ronaldo was lucky to win the euros. (He wasn't on the pitch)
Total joke of a player and the sham has been exposed!!

    * just to clarify this is not actually my view.

CRonaldo really let his team down today. Clearly couldn't handle the pressure.

George Best is always mentioned as the best ever, dont think he ever played in a world cup.

I don't know if that's true or not. He didn't win this one which was conducted this year
    https://www.independent.co.uk/sport...il-messi-ronaldo-maradona-voted-a8371576.html
But the true test won't be how football fans vote now, while Messi is still playing, it'll be how football fans vote in the future. In 30 years time there'll be a couple of players who are considered to be the best ever. They'll be compared to each other, they'll be compared to Pele and Maradonna, the chances are they'll be compared to one or more players who between now and then made a huge impact in the world cup. Will they be compared to Messi? I doubt it.

I was highlighting just how controversial the decision was rather than linking to the definitive view. Newspapers and the web were awash with similar opinion pieces at the time, this article highlights that.

This illustrates my point better than I could.

I'm from a different era, I remember Jimmy Greaves as the bald bloke on an ITV saturday soccer show with some Scottish guy. Roger Hunt scored a hattrick in the world cup final.

I don’t. He’s already got Pele, Maradona, Brazilian Ronaldo proclaiming him as the greatest of all time. He’ll never be forgotten

I think in 30 years Messi and Ronaldo will still be remembered and talked about in those disscusions. I also think as they are playing now we just don't appreciate how good they are. The goal scoring returns of both men are just sensational.
