Why? He has not shown that we would miss him,he didn't or couldn't break into the team.I admit, he did look good on last year' Showreels but he couldn't adapt.
Best player until misplaced pass. Proper midfielder. Morais exiling him was just one of several blunders.
The lads played 9 games for us and only 5 of them were starts and one of them he was subbed off at half time. He was excluded from the squad altogether up until December and after that only played in a team with no form, confidence or any cohesiveness, no idea how people can make head or tail of him yet. Give him regular game time until Jan at least, if not the end of the season then make an assessment of whether he's any good. We certainly shouldn't be selling anyone at this point with no gaffer in place, especially someone who's had very little chance to prove themselves, also don't forget he's only 22 so it's not like he's some crock after a last pay day, he's got to be given time to develop.
Bang on. New manager in, assess the squad during pre season and up to January. That’s the whole point of us giving them longer contracts in the first place, so we hold the cards. If the lad wants a move back to Scotland and puts in a transfer request so we don’t have to pay off his contract, then that’s the only consideration - then get a decent fee, whack in a huge 40/50% sell on fee if he turns out to be as good as we had initially hoped, and wish him well.
Agree we have to wait til a new manager is in place and should assess who he wants to retain, how he wants to play (the suggestion of a team with Barnsley DNA, understanding of what the fans want and a consistent formation wasn't part of the Morais appointment). The simple fact though, we have 6 attacking central midfielders who haven't demonstrated that they can also do the defensive job. As mentioned above, several have played just a handful of games. But surely going forward, we have to rectify the bloated lopsided squad? Even if we play a 4-5-1 and take into account layering, we can't carry 6, surely? So who from Moncur, Knasmullner, Mallan, Mowatt, McGeehan, Bird makes way? Take Moncur out of that group, the other 5 have made just 19 starts, and Moncur only made around 30 in 2 years. It's tough, because they've not had the time or platform to show what they could do, but dropping down a league and facing easier opposition, some could start to shine. It's just that we have far too many to actually play!
We’ll need to balance the books, you can’t carry 6 attacking midfielders in League One when you can only realistically play a maximum of 2 at a time especially after losing what’s rumoured to be £6m with relegation. The club will be open to offers for any of Mallan, McGeehan, Mowatt, Moncur & Knasmullner in my opinion. I’d say only Potts out of the 6 is someone the club won’t consider selling unless a ridiculous offer came in. I’d say at least two will go & if the new managers comes in & prefers 4-4-2 then at least another one will likely leave. In an ideal world you’d not make the decision until a new head coach comes in but you don’t know how long clubs making the offers will wait otherwise you could end up with a situation where a head coach comes in & we can’t bring any signings in to the club in the positions he wants as the wage bill is too high & you can’t get any of the 6 attacking midfielders off the books.
Him wanting a move away would be the only acceptable reason for him to leave and even then I’d hope whoever the new HC is would come in and give him some confidence/support so he didn’t feel like he needed to move on
It’s a tough decision for whoever has to make it they’ve all got there flaws and there positives but I can definitely see Mowatt leaving and Bird going out on loan again, as for the rest we’ve barely seen three of them and Moncur is an enigma half the time he looks lazy, unfit and useless and the other half he’s a fantastic player.
we scored against fulham from a mallan corner. we scored a week later against villa with a mallan corner no impact aye
He can hit a dead ball, but we need to put him on castors to get him around the park. He has the mobility of a geriatric hedgehog.
