It feels to me like the last two seasons have been a waste of time.

But the claim was never countered. If the claim was an utter lie why wasn't it countered? The club has itself to blame for people believing a player when they don't disagree with the claim

I'll just refer back to the exact comments I made on that redundant argument earlier in the week ST and leave it at that. I get bored of repeating myself even if you clearly don't.

But not everything is black and white is it? If Conor's agent doesn't want to discuss contract terms at that point, and no decent agent in that position would do, then no contract has been offered so Connor is right in what he said. No contract was offered but the club are clear that there isnt a possibility of an extension. What he doesn't say is that no contract was offered because my agent isn't stupid enough to negotiate one before I've kicked a ball in the Championship.

Wouldn't an agent/player go for an improved contract in case he wasn't a championship success .
I have said before that those of us that have seen special bfc teams before would have offered these players improved contracts in the summer of 2016 .

No. You only have to look at what Connor's earning now to see why not and players usually back their own ability

But that was from a 2017 move .
My point was as a newly promoted div 1 player in 2016 .
For me it was a case of the club not backing the players ability when (I repeat myself here) experienced fans could see that we had a special group .

I was angry when we decided to sell all our players en mass....but as always its how you replace them....and as someone has stated ....it bordered on arrogance ...how we thought we could get in loads of lower league players (in this division) and expect us to get away with staying in the championship....for this petulant act..... i think the blame lies in several ateas and im mad as hell.
Lets get the next appointment right.....

So in 2016 you knew we had a special group. The players probably knew they were a special group. Most importantly, the players' agents probably knew they were a special group, which is why no contracts were signed.

Come on Paul - that’s an easy excuse. Patrick had been in charge for long enough at that point that any threat to the long term existence of the football club would have been entirely of his own making and there was no requirement to sell to guarantee such in my opinion. A team with a successful and highly valuable set of playing assets would actually have been more of a saleable asset than the shower of **** that he flogged to Chien and co.

Patrick Cryne did a lot for this football club and everyone understands that, but you can’t just excuse all the poor decisions with ‘but we still have a football club’.

I agree with much of the above. The plan hasn't worked, the players weren't good enough, and there was all kinds of off-field stuff that got in the way. Basically we were doomed to fail.

And yet... for the sake of, what, 40 seconds? we'd have had McBurnie all season. An extra goal here and there we'd still be a Championship club. If there's any justice in the world, Swansea will drop out of the top tier, go into meltdown, and drop into L1 just as we're coming back up.

If you talk to deserters - those that live in Barnsley but support Leeds and the Sheffield clubs - what you have described here is the overriding reason they chose not to support Barnsley.
Three steps forward .......... followed by three steps backwards.

This was more so under Patrick Cryne - where we have been treading water for about 12 long years.
We began the process of relegation back to League 1 soon after 29th May 2016.
Which resulted in EIGHT first team players up for sale in January 2017.

Agreed. But then again, if Mcburnie had signed for us in August and performed over the first half of the season as he did in the second, Swansea may well have taken him back in January to help secure their own safety.

In response to the original post ... I've been watching since 1974 & objectively most of it has been **** with intermittent competence & a few flashes of brilliance.

that's true. I guess it's all ifs and buts now, and largely irrelevant - but I can't help wondering what might have been. It's been fine margins all season and despite the abysmal final performance we almost managed to hang on. Oh well, onward and upwards.

The john stones bonus extra payment clause should have been used to shore up wages for certain key players or maybe bring two experienced players in that January 17 window.

Actually, I wasn't saying that at all. I was talking more about the fire sale of assets and the noises he was making from Nov 2015 onwards about getting out since there was no succession plan in place. His stated plan z for getting was giving the club (with substantial profits in it to keep it afloat for some time) to the fans and having a strategy for generating transfer revenue from time to time by following "The Plan". No idea how that could even work in practice but it was discussed with him briefly and was clearly the last option on the table if he was run over by the proverbial bus. Thankfully other options were more successful. Can you imagine ?

Reds owner Patrick Cryne has said that captain Hourihane, and star striker Sam Winnall, are both unwilling to sign new contracts. The 25-year-old Irish midfielder told the Chronicle: "I have got a year left on my contract and there's no rush to do anything or sign anything. I am sure that, during the year, myself and the club will keep talking and keep each other informed on what is going to happen.

Could it be that Mr Cryne , well aware of his prognosis was doing what every good husband and father would do in the circumstances, and was recouping what he was actually owed, thereby putting his family’s future on a solid foundation. Maybe we has a club sold off our best assets to fund this. Of course we don’t know this but Money like God, moves in mysterious ways.
