"I have tried to offer Andy Yiadom a new contract nearly every day since I came here. We have given him several proposals but he has not accepted any so far, which I can understand."

From last week but not heard the Yiadom part.

"We have a Championship plan and a League One plan, for recruitment. The money would not be the same but most of our players are under contract and all of those players have clauses in their contract in case of relegation. It is not as if the squad is a shambles."
Probably a simple answer but what clauses would they have?

At a guess, the basic wage and any bonus payments are dependent on the division the club is in. Which is the kind of sensible business practice that teams in the Premier League should use instead of relying on parachute payments to stack the deck in their favour if they are ever relegated.

so lets assume all the out of contract players do actually leave and all the loans return... then what exactly would we have left in terms of the present first team. Also do we have any academy/development players capable of stepping up to either of the leagues we may be in next season.

We don't know about our academy players because were too busy signing everyone else's. Then when we loan ours out it's always to lower league or nonleague.

Jack Walton looks like a real bonus for us and we might not have to make a keeper one of the main priorities this summer.
These relegation get out clauses in contracts do annoy me though, are they a modern day thing or have they always existed ?.

I interpreted it that if we were to go down they'd get their salaries cut. Which to be honest seems pretty fair to me!

Ohh I thought it was a relegation get out clause allowing them to leave if we go down. Didn't Steele & O'Grady have something like that 4 years ago.

    Uncertain about Hammill’s future.
A championship plan and a league 1 plan.

    Which is Hammill in?
Is it that we can’t afford his wages in league 1 and therefore we wouldn’t offer him a new contract if we go down.
Or is it that he’s not deemed good enough for the championship so we wouldn’t offer him a new contract if we stay up?

It might well be that. Just saying how I read it, but I could easily be wrong!

I like your suggestion better than mine though MT. And if its that then it does at least sound sensible to reduce their wages, if they take us down. On the other hand I wonder if bonuses or increases have been offered for keeping us up.

I guess bonuses are written in at the start of each contract - certain amount for staying up, finishing top half, play-offs, promotion etc, but open to renegotiation each close season. As far as I'm aware footballers' contracts can be quite complex. I might be wrong though about the bonuses. @Chef Tyke will probably be able to enlighten us further!

Did I hear right from the press conference - thought I heard Jose say he wants Hammill to stay next season. About 10mins in - couldn’t properly hear for the kids.
