I've been thinking the same. The season before Hull got to the Premier League for the first time, they were scrapping at the bottom of the table with us. We beat Swansea in the 2006 3rd tier Play Off Final, by 2011 they were in the Premier League. We finished the 2015/16 season as by far the best team in the 3rd tier. We lost most of the influential players and now losing finalists Millwall are stronger than us. Others kick on, we don't.
Well I would like to see a comparison, showing how much we have spent in the last 4 or 5 years, compared to Brentford. Plus I do believe a team called Brentford has been in the top division and finished as high as 5th. So they're entitled to give us a game, Shirley.
Just look at the link I've posted mate. Their wage bill is almost double their revenue. Think that gives you a clue.
No, but we’re about to be 6 million down but for a little more speculation in the transfer market. Great business that, not.
The thing is we can all point at teams that have made a better fist of it over recent years but there are plenty who have done worse and these things go in cycles. Brentford and others like them will have bad seasons in the future and we will get it right again in the future. For example, when we were last in L1 our near neighbours Rotherham spend most of that same period a division above us and pretended they were bigger than us. But the cycle turned as it always will. If we go down, so be it, its deserved but we'll come back. No point pointing at other teams and shedding tears of envy. It happens.
Not envious at all, simply pointing out that trying to be ultra-frugal at this level just wont cut it anymore, maybe 10 years since, but not now. This mentality has to stop in order to progress if that’s indeed, what Barnsley FC desires.
Don't disagree with any of that. But first we need to deal with the here and now. We have to try and stay up - thats the immediate goal. And if that fails, which is likely, then we have to deal with getting a side together capable of getting out of L1 before we worry about the sustainability of our championship position.
Loss of earnings isn't the same as debt though. You say interest on the latter. 6 million quid is a drop in the ocean in this league. I think we received that by way of a solidarity payment last season. It's still nowhere near enough to make a real difference.
Agreed. Last thing I want is us to go down like this but sadly we don’t seem to have it in us to grind out a result with this team. Major shake up required whichever league is now required for me.
